Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk Finale: Japanese Fans React — "An Unmistakable God-Tier Anime"
“Thank you for making a yuri anime this stylish and this literary… an unmistakable god-tier show.”
Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk closed out its 12-episode spring 2026 run on June 27, and Japanese fans spent the following days crowning the drinking-and-yuri drama the season's quiet masterpiece. Under a Japanese reviewer's finale wrap-up, the comments broke down exactly why it landed: three couples each written in a different key, grown-up romance told through liquor, literature and film instead of direct confessions, studio Soigne's metaphor-heavy direction, ending themes that sent viewers off in tears every week, and the original author Hei personally drawing key animation. The one honest asterisk — episode 3's divisive art — only sharpened the love, and the season-two tea-leaf reading is already in full swing. The last word goes to a fan whose wallet took collateral damage.

All three yuri couples are written completely differently, and every single one of them works.
It's the kind of grown-up romance you rarely get in anime, and personally I loved every minute of it.
- @user-ycyc👍 13
Every couple gets its own journey and its own color. Just like liquor.
- @YamaD0922👍 65
The drinking scenes are so stylish it's unfair.
I'm not even a strong drinker, but this show made me want to travel to the actual locations and order the exact drinks they had. An anime of beautiful intoxication.
- @natori888👍 11
I went in expecting a cozy eat-and-drink show, so when they started hitting legit fancy bars I went 'wait, seriously?' lol. Also, none of them work part-time jobs — where is all this money coming from?
- @gomychan4267👍 4
Books, films, music, liquor… a yuri anime that kneads in this much knowledge and never says anything straight out. It's one of a kind. Calling it a work of art wouldn't be an exaggeration.
Botan Kamiina takes the OP's confession — 'if you want to stay together, you have to say it' — and expresses it not just directly but indirectly, through gorgeous art and staging. Watching it felt like reading literature.
- @YM_John316👍 14
The piercer scene had real metaphor layered into it. Loved that.
- @ivanov-z3v👍 10
The liquor, the girls' relationships, the highbrow books and films that keep showing up — rolled up in one, I think this was a story about the rites of passage of youth. And the animation, the soft-focus work, the way they angle the light… top-tier stuff.
- @ROBOSKIJ👍 15
I started out filing it as 'soft yuri,' then episode 4 flipped my whole read of the show and I fell hard. The emotional metaphors are literary, and Soigne's visual language made it a joy to watch.
- @mustard7058👍 8
I wasn't paying attention at first, binged it once four episodes were out, and got completely sucked in. I wanted to raise my resolution on this work, so I bought the manga and started following the author Hei's notes and X posts. Very few shows take me this far emotionally.
- @nodoguro926👍 21
This one's dangerous. I went and bought the entire manga and read it cover to cover. The craftsmanship is just too good.
The people who go 'ugh, yuri, pass' are exactly the ones who should watch this masterpiece.
Gunjo-senpai got protagonist-level spotlight, and the staff drew her most beautiful, heart-piercing expressions to perfection. Nothing but gratitude for this production team.
I'm so glad Gunjo-senpai got her moment.
Gunjo-senpai and Jinran's pairing is just way, way too good.
- @LOVE_Hoshino-u3x👍 2
Genuinely great. Jinran was the MVP — she's the reason the final stretch was that fun.
- @Ameri-n6x👍 1
This became one of my favorite shows too. The opening is so beautiful I never skipped it once. And the way the name shifts — 'dorm head' → 'Ibuki-san' → 'Ibuki' — that progression was… everything.
The finale's ending sequence had something welling up in me.
The show itself goes without saying, but every single ED was divine too. I melted.
I picked it up because I liked the OP, but the ED for the flashback arc — a story that isn't even drawn in the manga — was the one that got me.
- @opp608👍 46
As everyday-life yuri this was as good as it gets. And I was stunned to learn the original author personally drew the key animation for one scene.
The final episode had key animation cuts by Hei-sensei themselves, huh.
- @citrussnow12👍 2
THIS is how you do an adaptation! They elevated it! Not just a change of medium — they took on stories that aren't in the manga, with playfulness and real swings. I had a blast. I drank along, too! 😊
- @upk34-g7n👍 20
I just wish the whole show had episode 1's art…
- @AtsushiMatsunobu👍 7
Having watched everything, episode 3's art style still didn't sit right with me. The story is so good — that's the one thing I regret.
Episode 3 was so wildly different in flavor that it built up my tolerance — after that, the art never bothered me at all.
It was fantastic, but somehow I get the feeling there won't be a season 2 — and I can't tell if that makes me happy or sad.
There's a new character in the ED! And the official comment called this 'a pause' — they are absolutely gunning for season 2!
Same with mono — at this point nobody in the business does slice-of-life anime better than Soigne.
This was my No. 1 show of the season, so hearing it called a god-tier anime makes me happy. What I love about Botan Kamiina is how nobody ever says 'I like you' outright — they converse in metaphors, and it's beautiful. The turn across episodes 8–9, from 'I'm fine' to not 'let's date' but 'let's stop being friends' — that destroyed me. Travel, liquor, yuri: all my favorite genres balanced into one. Sounds like it's rating high overseas too. Here's hoping for season 2.
So it's 'KAMI-ina Botan' now, as in god-tier? …Yeah, honestly, fair.
It was the best. I'm buying a bottle of Glenlivet.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeSaga of Tanya the Evil II: Japanese Fans React — "I Never Thought We'd Wait 9 Years"
Nine years after the original TV anime ended, KADOKAWA dropped the second main trailer for Saga of Tanya the Evil II ahead of its July 8, 2026 premiere, and Japanese fans flooded the comments with disbelief that the wait was finally over. The recurring threads were nostalgia for the returning veteran voice cast and theme song artists (MYTH & ROID and Aoi Yuki are both back), grim real-world parallels to the trailer's Eastern Front imagery, and one widow's comment about watching for her late husband that resonated with over a hundred replies. Even Tanya's own thumbnail got roasted for looking utterly heartless.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeJujutsu Kaisen Season 4 Teaser: Japanese Fans React — "There Are Lies in This World Better Left Untold"
When the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 (Death Culling Game arc) teaser dropped in June 2026, an overseas fan immediately called out what looked like an error — Sukuna appeared without his signature tattoos — and accused MAPPA of using AI. Japanese manga readers instantly knew better, and the comment section became a gleeful gathering of people who couldn't say why the design was intentional without spoiling everything. 'There are lies in this world better left untold,' wrote the second-most-liked comment (374 likes), perfectly capturing the manga-reader stance. The recurring thread: 'I want to tell him — but telling him IS the spoiler.' Those in the know settled for cryptic inside jokes ('Today I have just one word: Kaikotsu'), while one comment bittersweet-ly mourned: 'Soon we won't see Megumi for a while.' The kicker is that the original overseas poster later claimed it was rage-bait all along — and then got roasted even harder for that.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeOne Piece: Japanese Fans Revolt Against THE ONE PIECE Remake — "Finish the Manga First"
When THE ONE PIECE — the Netflix-backed remake of the original One Piece anime — dropped its teaser in June 2026, Japan's manga fanbase erupted. The top comment, with 431 likes, called it 'a remake of a manga that's literally mid-meltdown and still unfinished.' The dominant fear wasn't the remake itself but that Oda would use it to retroactively insert Nika-related foreshadowing into the East Blue arc — 'they'll add scenes that never existed and call them foreshadowing.' A second flash point was the aging voice cast: veteran Tanaka Mayumi (Luffy's VA, now in her 70s) reportedly turned it down once before accepting, and fans were furious she was being asked to restart a 1,000-plus episode journey. The sardonic close: 'Can you even call it a remake if the original isn't finished? ...Honestly, in a way, it already is.'

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeOne Piece Chapter 1186: Japanese Fans React — "ONE PIECE Is Dead"
One Piece Chapter 1186 gives Japanese readers the moment they've been waiting for — Luffy lands a hit on the final boss Im — and then immediately cuts to a flashback. The response from Japanese fans was uniformly bleak. Three threads dominated the comment section: the pacing that kills momentum before it can breathe (fans mourning that the era of punches that "carried the feelings of characters and readers alike" is gone for good); Brook's stomach-turning "I changed your diapers" plea that somehow made his protégé stabbing him in the skull feel completely earned; and a silent mid-chapter retcon of a key power slipped in with zero acknowledgment. Voice actor Chō-san collected the most sincere sympathy. The highest-liked comment kept it short: "ONE PIECE is dead. No matter how many times you call out, it won't come back."
