One Piece Chapter 1186: Japanese Fans React to Brook's Backstory — "At Sabaody He'd Never Even Heard of Celestial Dragons"
“I know it's nitpicky to say this about a weekly serialization, but back at Sabaody, Brook's reaction to the Celestial Dragons was basically "the who now? Never heard of them 💀" — and now we learn he's got this horrific past tied directly to Celestial Dragons?”
On One Piece Chapter 1186, which continues Brook's tragic Shuri backstory, Japanese readers split hard — and the loudest ones came to roast the continuity. The top comment points out Brook acted like he'd never heard of Celestial Dragons back at Sabaody, yet now he's got this Celestial-Dragon-soaked past; others jab that Lvneel's wings and horns simply vanished from one chapter to the next, and that Oda ignores consistency but hates getting called on it. Plenty were genuinely moved by Shuri's sacrifice and worry for Laboon, but the thread's spine is the continuity debate — right down to a final shot at the fans defending it all.

I went back and reread volume 51 — Brook literally has Hatchan explain the Celestial Dragons to him at Sabaody, and even sees one in person, and he just doesn't react at all. That's way too unnatural.
After living through something this shocking, his reaction on first meeting her is just "huh, she looks kinda familiar"? That's hilarious.
- @od4669👍 35
First it's "she looks familiar," then it's "I didn't even want to remember," and now we get this whole flashback. It's completely incoherent lol.

Maybe he's got some brain damage after all… oh wait, he's a skeleton, never mind.

He gets his head run through, and you think "oh, he'd already eaten the Revive-Revive Fruit by then" — but no, he hadn't, so he just topples over.

Lvneel's wings just vanished — did Oda forget his own "he's healthy now" setup mid-chapter? lol. The author's memory and the editor's incompetence have me genuinely fed up.
Stuff that was there last chapter just… disappears lol.
- @KenKen-ih8nc👍 20
Lvneel's wings and horns being gone is pretty wild. Come on, that's just cheating — quietly pretending they never existed is unprecedented.
Don't just hide the head that had horns last chapter behind a speech bubble lol.
For someone who draws this while ignoring all consistency, he really hates getting called out on it, huh. What's the goal here?
- @kimagure-MAN👍 45
Honestly, I just want it to end already.
- @awayplay309👍 27
I think he just wants to scribble whatever he feels like. He's got more money than he knows what to do with, so there's no need to keep going. If this weren't a product being sold, he could do whatever he wants — but it is.

The only good thing about this is that he wrapped the flashback up quickly.

A series that gets praised just for keeping a flashback short — as expected, Oda 😄
- @maron1182👍 18
The flashback ended sooner than I expected. The endless-flashback complaints must've really gotten to him.
And the payoff is the non-combat members going "let's free Shuri from the ice!" Honestly, shouldn't saving the people of Elbaf come first?
- @k2k632👍 176
Doesn't this just make the Brook who later had a grand old time in the Rumbar Pirates look like an idiot?

After going through all this, he goes "alright, I've got free time now, let's go live my dream of partying it up with my pirate crew!" — man, that takes some nerve.

His face going full gag-mode the moment he gets hit is genuinely cringe. He really can't draw a serious fight anymore.

Lvneel, the man who tried to protect a Celestial Dragon's child even at the cost of sacrificing his own people — so cool it brings me to tears. …this guy's straight-up a government spy, right?

The believers who can actually tear up at the Shuri flashback have such great emotional efficiency — honestly, I'm jealous.

- @thegodfather7308👍 26
And the funny part is, even during stories that are genuinely moving, they only get about as emotional as they did for the Shuri flashback.
- @mos-oj7by👍 52
Every arc the main character is in a "once again, knows nothing about anything" state — at this point it's not even funny anymore.

A protagonist who doesn't react to Vegapunk's broadcast at all. The world's about to sink into the sea and you've got no comment? Then step down as the main character.

- @gjjj745👍 279
This author's brain is way too fried on cheating-drama tropes.
- @obikoBIS👍 70
Even as melodrama it's a mediocre one-note plot, way too shallow. A bunch of characters we barely know, with supposedly complicated backstories, bickering about stuff we know nothing about — it stirs zero emotion, so it just feels empty.
The scariest part is that the believers accept even this gut-wrenching mess by calling it "a past tragedy." Seriously, what is going on with them…
My theory: they're background characters who climbed out of the One Piece world itself.

At this point the "believers" are just Oda himself posting from a bunch of alt accounts.

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeDid Demon Slayer Kill One Piece? Japanese Fans Push Back — "Demon Slayer Didn't Win, One Piece Lost on Its Own"
One Piece fans in Japan turned a viral 'did Demon Slayer kill One Piece?' video into a sharp debate — and the most-liked comments refused to pin it on Demon Slayer at all. The recurring argument was that Demon Slayer is an innocent bystander, that One Piece's real turning point came earlier — when Attack on Titan made 'foreshadowing' and 'payoff' the new hype and One Piece started chasing it — and that the whole rivalry is really a contrast between Demon Slayer author Koyoharu Gotouge's humility and the self-consciousness fans read into Eiichiro Oda. The thread's verdict lands harsher than the video's: nobody beat One Piece — it lost to itself.

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeOne Piece's Art Style Over 27 Years: Japanese Fans React — "Of Course It Changed, You've Been Serializing It Since I Was a Baby"
On One Piece, a Japanese fan thread broke down how Eiichiro Oda's art has shifted across the manga's ~27-year run — early vs mid vs late era — and it turned into an affectionate, nostalgic argument rather than a complaint session. The recurring theme: most of the top comments crowned the mid era (the Water Seven / Enies Lobby look) as peak Oda — thinner lines, the best-balanced faces, the coolest Zoro, Sanji and Luffy designs — while a big camp went to bat for the clean, readable early art and the original Nami and Zoro. The most-liked observation reframed the whole debate with a shrug: he's been drawing this since his readers were literal babies, so of course the style moved. Running underneath it all was the thread's killer gag — that as Oda's drawing skill went UP, Nami's and Nico Robin's apparent "mental age" went DOWN — and a fond roast of how a young Nami once stared down Arlong solo, where today she "just screams." A small minority found the current Elbaf-era art rougher, but the thread landed somewhere warm: the guy was already a monster artist at 22, and most fans just love whichever era they grew up reading.

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeOne Piece Chapter 1185 Goes Into Brook's Backstory: Japanese Fans React — "Isn't That Just TOO Much Hell?"
One Piece Chapter 1185 finally opens up Brook's backstory, and the most-liked Japanese reactions turned it into a genuinely balanced debate. The recurring theme was a self-aware running gag: the thread's top comment literally walks itself from "ugh, another flashback…" to "wait, Brook's flashback actually goes hard — man, you suffered too, huh." From there it splits cleanly. One camp pushes back ("same one-note pattern every single time," "do we even NEED this flashback?"); the larger camp lands on "this one's tightly paced and actually great," capped by a killer point that Oda is on a flashback hot-streak so good — Oden → Kuma → the Rocks → Brook — that nobody's allowed to complain. Underneath the meta-argument, fans recap a life so brutal ("poverty → his nation destroyed → his whole crew wiped out → fifty years alone on a ghost ship → scattered and presumed dead at Sabaody") that they ask if it's just too much hell for one man, and dig into the lore: a skeleton Brook is heavily debuffed because Thriller Bark established that a strong zombie needs both a strong soul AND a strong body, plus the death-god reading of the Yomi Yomi no Mi. And the sharpest note is an East/West one — Japanese fans roll their eyes that overseas critics are "just reading the free fan-subs and raging," recycling complaints "you could've said about One Piece two years ago too."

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeKingdom Chapter 880: Japanese Fans React to Mouten's Rescue — "Mouten Is the Main Character Now"
On Kingdom Chapter 880, Japanese fans melted over Mouten and the Gakuka Army arriving to save the cornered Hi Shin Unit, and the comments read like one big group hug. The most-liked replies fixated on the line "if it were reversed, Shin would do the same," celebrated that Hakurou's dying wish for Mouten, Shin, and Ouhon to rise together is finally being honored, and started praying the besiegers get surrounded themselves — with theory-heads betting Shin is one beat away from an instinct-type awakening. People literally cried buying the magazine at the convenience store. The closing mood lands somewhere between hype and tears.
