Bleach TYBW: Fans Split on Giving Aizen an Anime-Only Bankai

Aizen has never once used Bankai across the entire Bleach manga, and a new Japanese reaction-compilation video is asking whether the anime adaptation should finally be the one to show it. Across 295 comments, the top reply (612 likes) skips the debate entirely and just requests a consolation prize instead, and from there the thread splits over whether Aizen deserves the same anime-original spotlight other characters have already gotten this arc, or whether the mystery is worth more than the reveal.

The disagreement isn't really about animation quality — it's about what kind of character Aizen is. Some argue his ability, Kyōka Suigetsu, already represents a complete, perfect illusion and doesn't need a bigger power to prove it; others say every other major player in this arc has gotten an original moment, and it's time he got one too. A recurring aside notes how differently "anime-original" reads now compared to a few years ago, when the label was closer to an insult.

A Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War reaction-compilation video this week is built around a single question the fandom keeps circling back to: will Aizen finally get an anime-original moment of his own? The manga famously never shows him using Bankai even once across the entire series, and with the anime already adding original material for other major players this arc, commenters spend 295 comments arguing over what an Aizen scene should even look like, and whether it should happen at all.

Aizen: "Bankai." Viewers: "AAAAAAAH!" Aizen: "Since when did you think I hadn't already used it?" Viewers: "AAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!" ...yeah, that's probably exactly how it's going to go.

The top reply doesn't even bother debating whether it'll happen. It just skips straight past Bankai and plans the consolation prize instead, betting the anime won't actually go there.

I don't think Bankai is actually happening, so just give me the full incantation for Gogyō Tenmetsu instead.

Not everyone in the thread is chasing spectacle, though. Plenty of commenters admit they'd be perfectly satisfied with something far smaller than a new power.

Even with zero extra hype, this is a guy where just hearing Hayami's voice deliver a closing monologue about courage is already more than worth it.

From there the thread splits into its real argument: is Aizen better off staying an unsolved mystery forever, or does he deserve the same kind of anime-original spotlight moment everyone else in this arc has already gotten? Neither side backs down, and more than one commenter admits they're arguing with themselves as much as anyone else.

Part of me wants Aizen to never use Bankai, because the mystery is its own kind of romance — but another part of me is like, no, I actually want to see it. Those two feelings are at war.

永遠のロマンであってほしいから藍染は卍解しなくていいって気持ちと、いややっぱ卍解見たいって気持ちが戦ってる。

Honestly, Aizen's personality fits Kyōka Suigetsu so perfectly that I don't want a Bankai reveal unless it's absolutely flawless. Even in the manga's rushed ending, Kyōka Suigetsu versus omniscience-and-omnipotence was about as beautiful as it gets — I'd rather they go deeper into that than add something new.

That uncertainty over what a Bankai would even look like spins off its own theory thread, one built entirely around what Aizen's ability, Kyōka Suigetsu, already represents and whether a "true" Bankai could even add anything to it.

My theory is that Aizen's Bankai is complete self-hypnosis — basically this series' version of Izanagi from Naruto.

It helps that the anime-original label itself has been quietly rehabilitated over the course of this arc. Multiple commenters bring up how differently the word reads now compared to a few years ago, back when it was closer to an insult than a compliment. The thread treats that shift as reason enough to actually trust the anime with a character this important, rather than a reason to worry.

Not that long ago, "anime-original" (as an insult) got dragged constantly, but now that author-supervised anime-original scenes are basically a luxury extension of the source material, the word's actually starting to mean something good. Genuinely happy about that.

一昔前は「アニオリ(蔑称)」って叩かれがちだったけど、原作者監修の原作補強アニオリはもはや贅沢な原作で「アニオリ」って単語の意味合いが良い方向に変わり始めてるよね、とても嬉しい

There's no way every other character gets the hype treatment and Aizen doesn't — expectations are already maxed out. This series doesn't even start without this guy.

他のキャラが盛られて藍染だけ盛られない訳がないからもう期待MAXよね。やっぱこの男がいないとBLEACHは始まらんよ。

There's no consensus on what form it should take — a full incantation, a black screen right before the credits roll, a kidō spell nobody's ever actually seen used. But the thread agrees on one thing: whatever happens, the moment deserves to land.

A guy who's already plenty impressive without any extra hype at all.

The very last word, though, goes to someone who isn't holding their breath for any of it — which, given everything else Aizen's already gotten away with in this arc, might be the most fitting note to end on.

FAQ

Has Aizen ever used Bankai in Bleach?
No — across the entire manga, Sōsuke Aizen never once uses Bankai. His ability, Kyōka Suigetsu, is a zanpakutō that grants absolute hypnotic illusion, which commenters argue may already make a Bankai unnecessary.
Why are fans debating an anime-original Bankai scene for Aizen?
The Thousand-Year Blood War anime has already added original material for other major characters this arc. Commenters are split between wanting Aizen to get the same spotlight treatment and wanting the character's core mystery — whether he even has a Bankai — to stay unresolved.
What is Gogyō Tenmetsu, the alternative fans requested?
Gogyō Tenmetsu (五龍転滅) is one of Aizen's signature high-level kidō spells, referenced by the top-liked comment as a preferred alternative to a Bankai reveal — commenters would rather hear its full incantation than see a new power introduced.
