Mushoku Tensei Season 3's official preview for Episode 9, titled "Wailing," is narrated once again by "the man of a previous life" — Rudeus's former identity before reincarnation, voiced by Sugita Tomokazu — and this time it surfaces a piece of his own history that isn't in the original novels: a friend he made playing games online who once told him he might be dying. Across 353 comments on the official clip, a widely-shared reaction (572 likes) captures the surprise of hearing brand-new material about a character whose backstory readers thought they already knew, and the single most-liked comment on the thread (627 likes) is about someone else entirely. From there, fans traced the story to a claim circulating on X that the preview narration scripts are written by the original author himself, praised Sugita's delivery, and connected the episode's title — a word one commenter defines outright as "crying out loudly from grief" — to what it might mean for Nanahoshi, the story's only other reincarnator. By the end of the thread, the mood had shifted from surprise to quiet dread for a character several commenters agree is already having the hardest time of anyone in the story.
