The full trailer for Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising dropped — and after years of delays on the follow-up to Rebellion, the single most-liked Japanese comment is just four characters of pure relief: "no more delays, confirmed." But the reaction underneath it is anything but light. Fans zero in on the film's thesis — a girl who'd lose herself to save everyone, versus a girl who'd lose everything to save one person — and on their hope that Homura, after all this time, finally gets to grasp a happy ending. The thread turns quietly devastating as long-time viewers share why this movie matters: someone who suffered a brain hemorrhage last December and pushed through rehab just to walk into the theater on their own two feet; someone discharged from a leukemia ward who might make it if there's no relapse; someone who saw the original 14 years ago with a friend who has since "become a concept," and now understands Homura completely. It runs through instant, reflexive Kyubey hatred, the dread that an unbilled finale could mean another decade-long wait, and a wry "wait, is this Evangelion?" — before landing on a simple rallying cry.
