  自分は泣かないと思ってた。でも、老人になった彼にアムロが敬礼して、それが少年時代の同じ“ときめいた眼差し”にカットで切り替わった瞬間、やられた

  I thought it wouldn't get me. But when the old guy saw Amuro saluting him, and it cut back to him as a young boy with the same sense of wonderment, that got me.

  When I saw Amuro Ray raise his hand in salute, it didn't feel like a scene from a music video. It felt like a farewell, a thank you, and a promise all at once. For fifty years, Gundam has been more than giant robots. It has been dreams, friendship, loss, courage... Thank you, Gundam.

  I can confirm, my kid's 5 and he loves Gundam. Not so much the shows, but the video games, figures, and models. No doubt he'll get into the series though eventually.

  思い出すなぁ。YouTubeで『W（ウイング）』を観てたら、2歳半の娘がウイングガンダムを指さして「パパ！ガンダム！パパのガンダム！」って言って、棚のガンプラを指したんだ……

  I remember the day when I was watching Wing on YouTube and my 2.5yr old daughter pointed at Wing Gundam and said "Daddy! Gundam! Daddy Gundam!" and pointed at the GunPla model on my shelf...

  初めてガンダムを観たのは1980年、10歳のとき。イタリアでも観られたモナコの局テレ・モンテカルロで放送されてた。マジンガーや鋼鉄ジーグ、グレンダイザー（ゴルドラック）とはあまりに違って衝撃だったよ。今、当時の自分と同じ10歳になった日本人とのハーフの娘にいつも言ってるんだ。「ガンダムが無かったら、パパは日本に行くこともなく、ママに出会うこともなく、お前だってこの世にいなかったんだぞ」ってね

  I first saw Gundam back in 1980 when I was ten years old. It aired on Tele Monte Carlo, a station from Monaco in italian that we could watch in Italy. It was so different from Mazinger, Jeeg, and Goldrake that it blew my mind. I always tell my daughter—who is ten now, just like I was then, and half-Japanese—that if it weren't for Gundam, I never would have gone to Japan, met her mother, and she wouldn't even be here today!
