Chiikawa the Movie: Fans Rewatch and Realize Usagi Was the MVP All Along

A Japanese reaction-compilation channel went back through the Chiikawa movie and cut together every moment that supports one specific argument: Usagi — the group's permanently unbothered, always-hungry rabbit — is secretly the most competent member of the whole trio. The clip pulls mostly from the stretch where the three end up on a monster-infested island, and it plays like a highlight reel of him quietly handling things while everyone else panics.

Across 153 comments, the top pick (449 likes) is about Usagi being the only one still asleep while the rest of the group gets grabbed by seaweed monsters — read by commenters as proof he's simply built different. The most-liked comment overall (715 likes) skips specific scenes entirely and just imagines how the ending probably goes: him petting Chiikawa's head while side-eyeing the other two like they owe him one.

Not everyone in the thread was fully convinced it's all real competence and not just fan projection — but even the skeptics landed on the same conclusion in the end.

A Japanese "yukkuri" reaction-compilation channel went back through the Chiikawa movie and cut together every moment that makes the case for one specific argument: Usagi — the group's permanently unbothered, always-hungry rabbit — is secretly the most competent member of the whole trio. Most of the clips come from the stretch where the three end up stranded on a monster-infested island and have to row a boat back to safety, and it plays like a highlight reel of him quietly handling things while everyone else panics around him.

The video's own title frames it as something newly "revealed" by the movie, and the comment section treats it that way too — less like people restating an old joke and more like a bunch of viewers independently noticing the same pattern on rewatch and piling their evidence into one thread.

The fact that Usagi's the only one still asleep while everyone else is getting grabbed by the kelp just adds to his "strong character" energy lol

Once you start looking for it, apparently, you can't stop. Commenters kept flagging small background details — the kind of thing you'd only catch on a rewatch.

Early in the movie there's a fallen sign, and he just quietly picks it up and resets it somewhere sturdier — that's when I started clocking him as competent.

The background villager who panics and hugs Usagi the second someone mentions an islander getting eaten was so cute.

I was shocked that Chiikawa actually yells "heave-ho!" while rowing lol

Can start a fire. Can play an instrument. Can row twice as hard as anyone else. Can rap. Shows instead of just talking. Can hold his breath for a full minute underwater. Can dodge while rapping. This guy's the MVP of the movie.

By the end, the tone tips from "observant" to "just straightforwardly the strongest one here," and the single most-liked comment in the whole thread doesn't even reference a specific scene — it's just a mental image of how the ending probably goes.

By the very end he's probably petting Chiikawa's head while side-eyeing the other two like "you'd better be grateful for how nice I'm being right now."

I bet at some point in the movie he was thinking "I really should've brought my usual weapon" lol

When the islanders hesitate and suggest making a plan first, he just instantly fires back "Huh?!" — way too cool.

His personality and competence are great and all, but what I honestly love most is when he just lets out some unhinged battle cry for no reason — weirdly satisfying every time.

Not everyone in the thread was fully sold, though. One reply (111 likes) pushes back on the idea that this is all objective, arguing some of it might just be fans reverse-engineering competence out of a character they already love. Its own conclusion, though, still lands in the same place.

There's honestly too many moments here to just chalk up to fans reading extra meaning into a character they like. He genuinely seems to be quietly sizing up every situation and doing the best possible thing. So yeah — competent.

If he stopped dragging trouble along he'd basically just be a perfect romantic hero at that point. On the island he's clearly prioritizing keeping Chiikawa and Hachiware safe the whole time, and when the group gets split up he's obviously worried the entire time.

The thread eventually landed on the one criticism that actually sticks.

People keep saying "yeah, but he's also the one who drags them into most of these messes" lol. Which, fair — but that's basically the only thing anyone can actually hold against him.

Which is, honestly, a pretty good place for a highlight reel like this to land. It's not trying to argue Usagi is flawless — just that the show has been quietly building a case for him the whole time, one background detail at a time, and it took a movie rewatch and a comment section full of strangers to finally add it all up.
