The new Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunso) movie is the franchise's first film in 16 years and the original voice cast's final outing — and it landed to a backlash pointed squarely at director Yuichi Fukuda. Across 156 comments, the top comment, "Fans have every right to be angry here... the original cast's final work getting turned into the director's personal vanity project is just not okay," drew 150 likes, with "Seriously, someone go apologize to the voice actors" (100 likes) right behind it. The thread builds from there: fans pick apart the "the Keroro parts are fun and the Fukuda-troupe stuff is only about ten minutes" defense (63 likes), warn each other that they are "better off not going" and should just wait for streaming (71 likes), and slide from rage into grief — "First One Piece, now Keroro — the memories from back then keep getting tarnished" (97 likes). One 54-like comment names the bind longtime fans are in: they still have to see it for a final listen to the old cast, "like they're being held hostage." Editor's note: the anger repeatedly circles back to director Yuichi Fukuda's earlier work — his live-action Gintama and "Yoshihiko" both come up — and commenters note that Gintama fans who stayed quiet back then are now venting years of pent-up frustration. Others aim past the director at the producer and the production side that signed off on the project in the first place.
