Summer 2026 Anime Fan Poll: Jaadugar Wins No. 1, Record Votes
A Japanese anime review channel's season-ending fan poll for Summer 2026 has crowned Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia the season's top show, with Draw This, Then Die! taking second and Though I Am an Inept Villainess placing third. The vote drew over 600 participants, the channel's largest turnout ever, and the comment section spent far more time reacting to the results than arguing with them. Across 269 comments, several viewers who initially doubted Jaadugar because of its art style say they came around after actually watching it, and one comment even notes that the show's own creator showed up to react to the results. The discussion also digs into what made the rest of the top five stand out, from Draw This, Then Die!'s scrappy charm to Though I Am an Inept Villainess's small on-screen touches for foreign viewers trying to keep character names straight. By the end, even commenters who disagreed with parts of the ranking admit it was one of the deepest seasons in recent memory.

Jaadugar Ranked #1 Overseas This Summer, and Japan Wanted to Check the Numbers
A Japanese anime commentary channel dug into overseas streaming rankings and found Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia sitting at #1 for the summer season — a genuinely strange result for a slow, historically dense show about 13th-century Mongol politics, in a chart usually dominated by power-fantasy isekai. Across 264 comments, the reaction split roughly two ways: viewers thrilled a demanding, unglamorous history show could still top a chart, and skeptics pointing out that ranking-site numbers reflect that site's specific audience more than anime as a whole. Several commenters compared the appeal to the overseas hit prestige drama Shogun, arguing that unfamiliar political intrigue in an exotic historical setting travels well precisely because it isn't trying to be a power fantasy. It ends with someone arguing the show's real win isn't the ranking at all — it's converting people who knew nothing about the Mongol Empire into people who suddenly want to know more.

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Episode 6: Its Art Style Splits Japanese Fans
Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is six episodes into its run, and a Japanese anime-analysis channel put out a video asking how the Middle East has been receiving the historical drama so far. The video itself barely mattered — its own comment section turned into the real story, with Japanese viewers arguing over whether the show's soft, rounded art style undersells its brutal 13th-century subject matter. Across 248 comments, the top reply alone pulled 254 likes, and the thread split into two running debates: one over the art style (cute drawing, dark history — is that a mismatch or a Japanese storytelling tradition?), and a more pointed one over how Mongolian viewers and viewers from nations the Mongols conquered are watching the exact same episodes and drawing opposite conclusions about how fair the show is being. It ends, fittingly, with someone pointing out that the Wikipedia page for this era is basically a spoiler dump.

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Episodes 1-2: Fatima's Tragic Real History
Across 407 comments on Japanese YouTuber TERU-chan's first-impressions review of Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia's back-to-back series premiere, the single most-liked comment (234 likes) isn't about the animation at all — it's about one gutting line from episode 2. A close second (201 likes) goes further, warning that if the show stays faithful to the real history of Fatima Khatun, it "can only end badly." That lands right after another commenter looks up Fatima Khatun's actual Wikipedia page and reports back that it's rough reading — this isn't invented tragedy, it's the show hewing close to a real medieval life. From there the comments turn into an impromptu history seminar: a viewer with a history degree says the depiction of slavery under Islamic law of the era matches their own coursework, another lays out exactly how manumission worked as a virtuous act, and several Japanese fans connect the story back to their own history, noting Japan avoided a similar fate as this show's setting largely because of the sea. By the end, the highest praise in the thread isn't analytical at all.
