I just can't shake the feeling that Oda genuinely has a complex about Demon Slayer.

  • Saw this take online: it was the power of Keizo, the Soryu master. Rengoku's a swordsman, so he'd NEVER make someone drop their blade — that's basically getting your junior killed. Keizo was a martial artist, so he knocked it loose so the kid would throw a punch instead.

  • Gotouge once wrote, 'Demon Slayer became this widely read because of all of you. You're welcome to go ahead and say you raised Demon Slayer yourselves!' That line stuck with me. The kindness, the humility — you can feel he's genuinely grateful to the readers. We're the ones who want to thank him. That's why I love the guy.

  • Even in death, the man who refuses to let anyone die — Rengoku.

  • Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan played a part, sure, but in the end Oda became the hare in the tortoise and the hare. While he was being showered with 'you're No.1,' the people quietly putting in the work simply delivered the results.

  • Looks like an honorable stand-up-fight boss, but actually the win condition is: • Lecture him that 'the strong protect the weak' to jog a fragment of his Master loose • Notice he's summoning his fighting aura and enter the Transparent World • Catch him off guard, declare 'I'm cutting your head off NOW!' with full honor, and behead him • Before he fully regenerates, deck him with a bare fist to make him completely remember his Master's punch ⚠️ Note: he instantly regenerates from any attack, every one of HIS hits is lethal, and he out-stats you in basically every category. You have to clear ALL of that or he regenerates after decapitation and wipes your whole party. Worst. Boss. Ever.

  • 'Saint' Eiichiro Oda and One Piece 'got crushed by Demon Slayer' — but here's the catch: Demon Slayer didn't actually win. 'Saint' Oda just wrestled himself and keeled over on his own.

  • If the blade slipped because Rengoku's will is in it, then Rengoku is saving the very person who killed him. It's the payoff to what all three of them set in motion back on that train — gives me chills. Rengoku didn't just let no one die; he even saved Akaza, the demon he hated.

  • A stark difference from a certain 'Oda' (said with a sneer) who mistook it all for a one-man achievement 😂

  • So basically it's Rengoku going, "It's alright now, young Kamado! Come to me!"

  • He just psyches himself out and flops. Same story every time.

  • There's also the theory that an imaginary Master or Koyuki was there shielding Akaza and pulled the blade away from him.

  • It's been off the rails since way before Demon Slayer even started.

  • I love that little strangled "—!!" noise Giyu makes.

  • Nah, it got boring after the Marineford War made it massive and he started hanging out with celebrities.

  • Rengoku's tsuba (sword guard) protected Kotetsu too, so maybe his spirit really is dwelling in there…

  • And on top of that, the Demon Slayer author had the vessel to take the very episodes his editor tore to shreds and turn them into the manga…

  • In the movie it goes — Tanjiro: "My blade…!" and then Giyu: "IT SLIPPED OUT!!!" It was honestly hilarious.

  • Honestly, Demon Slayer got cast as the 'rival' without ever asking for it — that's a nuisance for them too.

  • Saw a video where it went — Kyojuro Rengoku: "I'm the one who knocked the blade loose. I wanted to tell you that you didn't need to cut him." Akaza: "Okay now I'm gonna fall for YOU too!!"

Editor's note

The Infinity Castle reactions here get granular in a way overseas coverage rarely does — Japanese fans read Tanjiro's slipping blade as “Hakuji finally beating Akaza.” And when “did Demon Slayer kill One Piece?” went around, the Japanese take was blunt: Demon Slayer didn't win; One Piece lost on its own.
