Genshin's "The Final Gift" Animated Short — How Japanese Fans Reacted to the Harbingers' Slumber Party: "She's THIS Adorable, and We Never Saw a Single Frame of It Before She Died."
“This woman called Rosalyne is THIS adorable in front of Sandrone and the others — and then dies in the main story without ever showing us a single millimeter of that cuteness.”
Genshin Impact's new animated short "The Final Gift" dropped on the game's Japanese channel, and instead of villains it shows four of the Fatui Harbingers — Sandrone, Columbina, La Signora (Rosalyne), and Arlecchino — having a private, pajama-clad slumber party. The most-liked Japanese reactions weren't about the lore drops; they were about the gut-punch of seeing this warmth at all. The recurring theme is the cruelty of the gap: the comment thread keeps circling the fact that these are characters Japanese players only ever knew as cold antagonists — "The Knave" relaxed enough to laugh out loud and lose a pillow fight, the tsundere Marionette gone completely soft, Columbina just standing at the door singing — and above all Rosalyne, the caring big-sister of the group, who in the main story dies in Inazuma before showing a millimeter of this side. Fans rewrite the family roles (mischievous mother, watchful father), debate whether she's a villain or just "someone who loved an ordinary love and drowned in it," and note how her in-game lines now land completely differently. It builds to one bittersweet wish that only a Genshin player would phrase exactly this way.

I'd just assumed "tea party" was code for some kind of secret meeting — turns out it's literally a girls' night in…
I always pictured the ladies' tea parties as prim, proper, everyone-seated-at-the-table affairs — but they also do the no-etiquette, pajamas-on, capital-G Girls' Night version? They're way too close...

Sudden new lore: "Father" (Arlecchino) with her guard ALL the way down, at a Harbinger girls' night (pajama party edition).
- @splight_2692👍 1,209
4:08 — it's less a tea party than a regular cute girls' night, I'm cracking up. Isn't this the first time official material has shown Arlecchino this casually dressed?
A pillow fight in the middle of the tea party — normally "Father" would be furious about the lack of manners, but those happy laughs tell you exactly how close they all are...
She can miss the play, but she'll move heaven and earth to make the tea party — "Father" being this cute should be illegal.
From 4:50: "A shame I missed the play, but luckily I made it to this gathering." I love that it quietly implies they meet up like this regularly, not just once lol

So THIS is what Columbina just singing in front of the door looks like. So cute…………………………
Columbina is standing dead still in front of the door singing, like several times harder than I expected, I'm dying. I figured she'd at least be leaning back against the door while she sang.

Sandrone is, like, ten times clingier with Alain than I ever imagined. Adorable.
1:59 — even Sandrone, the so-called tsundere, is all melted softness around Alain. I'm tearing up.
- @sena-pjsekai👍 720
At the tea party the dynamic is basically — Sandrone: the do-her-own-thing eldest daughter; Columbina: the little sister who wants big sis's attention; Rosalyne: the mischievous mom; Arlecchino: the dad watching over it all calmly. I love it way too much. (…)
- @Kochakaden-619👍 4,654
I figured Rosalyne would be the prickly type even at a girls' night, but she's the big-sister of the group and I cried. "I brought sweets," "Is there anything you all want to do?" — she's just too thoughtful of an older sister.
- @Djral193👍 3,382
The Fair Lady really must have been incredibly gentle to the people she loved after all — her colleagues, a lover, the ones who mattered to her.
- @Fuyu75👍 273
When you first meet her in the story she's a flat-out enemy, but it turns out she was a deeply loving person after all…
I think of Rosalyne as someone who fell into an ordinary love, loved, and ended up suffering for it. She was clever. She had power. And it still swallowed her whole. (…) You can really feel what a kind person she was, and it just aches…
We only ever knew her cold, heartless side… to think she was normally this warm, this considerate… if only we'd known sooner… back at that duel before the throne… we might have been able to cry FOR you…!! Why… WHY!!!
- @rx1369👍 644
5:13 Rosalyne… she can smile this calmly, this gently, and yet soon after she meets the god she has a personal grudge against and falls in Inazuma… you'd never see it coming, would you… 😭😭
- @mise4439👍 1,383
Once they show the backstory, Rosalyne's "How absurd" at her own death, and her flat "No" in answer to Alain's question, mean something completely different.
- @yamamoto-love👍 87
From the Traveler's side it's a villain, a bad guy's death. From Sandrone's side it's someone precious, a comrade's death… it really does come down to where you're standing. (The Doctor, though, is just evil from every angle.)
5:47 — "Father" laughing out loud is just too good… she must have genuinely loved these tea parties… and then the tone of her voice when she hears of the Fair Lady's death, after all that…
- @tissue2098👍 786
Right alongside the "been waiting for you, Sandrone" and "Columbina is too cute" feelings, there's this "Rosalyne, please don't die" one creeping in…
- @irana8902👍 915
Childe… did you seriously crash this girls' night and bring Tartaglia along…? Okay, I'm falling for you all over again.

In the final cut the decoration on the chest and the winding-key mount has changed, which means it's a new outfit — so I take it the moment she receives the legacy is the most recent point on the timeline, yes? 7:05

As things stand now, two of them are dead and one has left. "Father" being the last one standing and secretly lonely about it… yeah, I can buy that.

Arlecchino: "Rosalyne will be touring Mondstadt and Inazuma from here on." Me: don't you DARE — just stay there and have your precious little tea party forever.

🎮 GamesGamesYouTubeLao-Shan Lung & Kushala Are Back in Wilds: Ascendance — Japanese Hunters React: "Fun… the First Time, at Least"
Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance reveal confirmed the return of two classic Elder Dragons — the fortress-siege titan Lao-Shan Lung and the storm-wreathed Kushala Daora. But while the Western reaction was mostly pure hype, Japanese veteran hunters met the news with something far more complicated. The thread is a tug-of-war between deep nostalgia ("just seeing Lao-Shan Lung in HD is enough") and hard-earned skepticism about whether Lao's slow siege grind will actually be fun, or a chore by the third hunt. Along the way they argue whether Kushala will be Rise- or World-based, bet that Chameleos gets benched yet again, and split hard over whether 'the grind IS the fun' or just busywork. It ends on the single most battle-scarred prediction only a longtime hunter could make.

🎮 GamesGamesYouTubeOcarina of Time Remake: How Japanese Fans Reacted — "We Knew From a Single Note"
At the June 9th Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally announced a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, timed to the series' 40th anniversary. We pulled the top reactions from Japanese fans watching live — and the recurring theme wasn't the graphics. It was how instantly they recognized the game: many say they knew before Link ever appeared on screen, the moment Saria's Song played right after the word "Hyrule." From there the thread spirals into open tears over Link's unchanged N64 voice, a wishlist begging for Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess next, a theory that the upcoming Zelda movie might be Ocarina-based, and a wave of newcomers asking if it's okay to start the legend here. It all ends on a deep-cut joke only a true Ocarina veteran would make.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeWhy Kaiju No. 8 Never Caught Fire in Japan: Japanese Fans React — "They Made a Mediocre Story... Mediocre."
Kaiju No. 8 was one of the biggest manga launches of its era — 14 million copies in print, a glossy Production I.G anime, an OP by an internationally famous band. So Western fans are often surprised to learn it left a lot of Japanese readers cold. This reaction thread, built around a Japanese fan-critic's video literally titled "Why didn't the Kaiju No. 8 anime catch on," is one of the bluntest looks you'll find at that homegrown disappointment. The recurring themes: that the genuinely great opening hook — a middle-aged ex-kaiju-cleanup worker using his cleanup know-how to fight monsters — got quietly abandoned the moment Kafka joined the Defense Force; that these "kaiju" feel less like Godzilla and more like talking, human-sized people in monster suits; that the much-memed "left elbow, right elbow" copy-paste panel became a punchline; and that fans kept name-dropping a different manga, Rai Rai Rai, as "the Kaiju No. 8 we actually wanted." The most quietly devastating line in the whole thread isn't even an insult — it's a correction to the video's own title.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeWhy Did Levi Survive Attack on Titan? Japanese Fans React — "He Wasn't Lucky. The Brigade Is Worth One Levi."
Levi Ackerman walking out of Attack on Titan alive is one of the manga's quietest miracles — a fan-favorite everyone was bracing to lose, who somehow made it to the final page. A Japanese reaction clip revisiting his survival blew up, and the most-liked Japanese comments turn it into the debate the West never quite settles in English: was it luck, or was it the point? The thread opens on the franchise's most-quoted scrap of dialogue — "Levi is worth an entire brigade" — and the running joke that the truer reading is the reverse: this brigade is worth one Levi. From there the recurring themes were two: the very Japanese reading-experience of following the series purely terrified of when Levi would finally die ("the story took a back seat"), and a serious, citation-heavy fan theory that his survival was never luck at all — that an awakened Ackerman senses lethal danger through the Paths, the way only he and Mikasa flinched at Zeke's rockslide from inside the airship. The luck-camp pushes back, the theory-camp digs in, and somewhere in the middle someone just says he's too short to hit. It lands on the only conclusion the comment section could reach about a 160cm man who dodges everything.
