Armored Core VI: A 50,000-Yen Balteus Figure Announced as a "Candy Toy" — Japan Reacts

“Insisting on selling THIS as a "candy toy" — I'm dead lol.”
A pricey (~50,000 yen) Balteus figure from Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon was announced half-jokingly as a giant "candy toy" — and Japanese fans piled in. The thread cracked up at the idea of a 1,000-to-1 Xylem being physically impossible, got genuinely grateful that FromSoftware keeps the IP alive through merch even without a sequel, and argued Balteus really is near the top of the PCA's combat roster — "of course they sent their best from the start." Affectionate, broke, and ending on a line about the thing prowling your room at night.
Japanese fan reactions (excerpted from 255)
So… Balteus (soda flavor)? lol
— @狐炎-z3c6 likesIt'll carbonate anything and everything.
…a candy toy?
— @zankanto1727 likesCan you believe it? This thing is, technically, the bonus that comes with a stick of gum......
— @1geki_hissatsu7 likesIt comes free with the gum, the gum is the main product (Insight +1).
1 likesThe reply going "oh nice, I was just in the mood for some gum" made me lose it.
61 likes50k?! That's insane!!!!! …and then the next moment I noticed I had already paid the 50k. No regrets.
— @nucoshogun17 likes"50k is a bit much for me, honestly." …is what I thought, until I saw the display unit at AmiAmi and pre-ordered it on the way home. I'm such an easy mark. Good luck, next-year me.
— @kamekitit49894 likesSaw the display unit at AmiAmi in Akihabara. It's genuinely big enough to need both arms to hold, and the detailing is fine. That skinny sensor-looking thing on the head looks like it'd snap instantly, kinda scary. I stood there staring at it thinking "so this is a single 50,000-yen stick of gum…"
— @アペプ-b2d20 likesNo question it's huge and expensive, but years of being domesticated by other toys means I've kind of landed on "eh, sounds about right." My only worry is whether my spirit survives building a kit this big that's technically a candy toy.
— @dainum23 likesHeard "candy toy" and expected a small, affordable, decent-quality little guy — then I watched the showcase and it was a full-on, absolutely massive Balteus.
— @わをん-z8d28 likesThe whole point of a "candy toy" was originally a snack you could stock in a supermarket, so let's get them to shelve this at Seijo Ishii or Costco and watch our moms panic. There's a chance!
— @seiyo-san53 likesOnly a weekly partwork subscription would finally make the price make sense.
— @490-C48 likes"Weekly: Interstellar Migration Ship Xylem" — Issue #1 comes with: 3 ECM fog generators.
17 likesHow many YEARS are you planning to make us assemble this……
309 likesA 1,000-to-1 scale Xylem would be completely out of its mind lol
— @カルボナ-o8e180 likesThat's a size that'd make a Star Destroyer or the Death Star turn and run.
— @potato-imo-Mcd23 likes7:47 — roughly 2 6, 0 0 0 km. That's twice the diameter of Earth.
— @peacepeaceta918425 likesLaughed out loud for real. There was a "giant AC6" thread out there, but there's such a thing as LIMITS!
— @カルボナ-o8e4 likesComing back to it, the enemy-side machines are all way too cool, every single one of them.
61 likesPeople always ask why enemy factions in games and manga don't deploy their strongest from the start — but Balteus is genuinely close to the PCA's top-tier combat power. Of course, it's a special-ops unit.
— @zuruzurub85 likesThe PCA might own stronger weapons, but among what they can actually ship to Rubicon, Balteus and the cataphracts are about the top of it. And the fact that a de facto top commander of one wing of the biggest enemy faction rides in on a modified version of this — even setting Coral power aside, that puts it pretty high up in the world's pecking order.
27 likesAnything stronger than this is basically uncontrollable Coral weaponry, so yeah, it really is top-class firepower.
17 likesEven before that — a regular Rubiconpter is already a serious threat to mob MTs and rank-and-file mercenary ACs. The only ones shown taking one down are 621 and old man Dolmayan; nobody else has a recorded kill, even in the text material.
10 likes156 missile tubes? Is its head literally a powder magazine lol
— @ponnaru120116 likesI always assumed it held the flamethrower and missile pods in its hands — turns out arms sprout from BOTH its weapons and link up. That caught me off guard.
— @アルグレイ-r7m6 likesForget the pilot inside — the gatling and flamethrower it's holding are almost the same size as a whole AC.
— @araarba27403 likesThe pilot inside Balteus has a mono-eye and I love it ❤️
— @きなこまる-x3n19 likesWe may not be getting a sequel or DLC, but it makes me happy that they keep the IP alive on other fronts — concerts, model kits, stuff like that.
— @ノックノック-o9p94 likesI love Armored Core so much I was sitting here wishing they'd let me throw more money at it — and then this arrived. Truly, thank you.
— @水無月-l9e3 likesI can feel the corporate will of "we will NOT let you forget Armored Core."
— @GrizzlygriizLee2 likesThis is a company that's clearly not right in the head (as a compliment).
— @くりどん-r5s9 likesPrice-wise it's up there with the Neo Zeong or Dendrobium, but it's just as big or bigger… and look closely, the pilot inside is unexpectedly handsome lol. FromSoftware, the sequel, please, soon…
12 likesOnce my Balteus arrives, I'm modding it into the plasma-weapon spec.
12 likesYOU are the corporation now!
— @yamamoto41555 likesI can't buy it myself for lack of shelf space, but I do want to watch a modeler build one on video. Half out of morbid curiosity.
Tkne13 likesEven the candy-toy GaoGaiGar was 20k and pretty big — but this is the kind of candy toy that picks its buyer 😅
— @もえじろう-h7h4 likesThis thing looks like it'd fly around your room on its own in the middle of the night.

When word spread that the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring was being nicknamed the "Tarnished Edition" (褪せ人エディション), Japanese players gleefully ran with the in-joke. The thread imagined Nightreign converts getting bodied by the Tree Sentinel before Margit finishes them off, riffed on a fake "For You, Without a Maiden" sticker on the box, and rolled out every demigod insult in the game. It builds to the question that breaks everyone — and one reader's verdict on FromSoftware's relationship with discrimination.

On the Switch 2 version of Star Fox, Japanese fans reacted by zeroing in on exactly what changed from Star Fox 64. The single most-debated point: the cutesy "Gomen-chai!" ("sowwy!") voice line getting cut. From there the thread argues Fox got Westernized — he lost the polite, earnest-hero feel of 64 and now reads like a cocky modern kid, and people miss the punchy "Mission Complete" delivery. The mood is nostalgic and split, "good and bad, but it's a different beast from 64" — with one fan landing on why the new Fox might actually be the right call.

On Elden Ring, Japanese players turned a "what gear did you actually main?" thread into a wholesome fashion-souls show-and-tell. The most-liked picks were the cloth Banished Knight set and Vagabond armor with a Greatsword for "peak adventurer vibes," while others swore by the Black Knife set for keeping a light-roll, mixed Cuckoo Knight helms onto Night's Cavalry bodies, and confessed to cosplaying Ranni on a grizzled old-man face. It all builds to the same punchline the video saves for last — the one drip choice that had everyone laughing.

Why Meccha Chameleon Sold 20 Million Copies. I Translated a Month of Your Comment Sections Looking for the Answer
Meccha Chameleon has sold twenty million copies in two months. A hide-and-seek game that costs about six dollars, built by two people in roughly two months, with nothing spent on advertising. Plenty of good writeups have already explained why, and the game-design arguments hold up fine. But since July 4th I have been building articles out of the overseas reaction to this game, twenty-six of them, reading a few thousand comments a night and translating them into Japanese. From where I sit, the developers did not sell this game and neither did the streamers. You did. The comment section did.
