When THE ONE PIECE — the Netflix-backed remake of the original One Piece anime — dropped its teaser in June 2026, Japan's manga fanbase erupted across the 506 comments under the reaction video. The top comment, with 441 likes, called it 'a remake of a manga that's literally mid-meltdown and still unfinished.' The dominant fear wasn't the remake itself but that Oda would use it to retroactively insert Nika-related foreshadowing into the East Blue arc — one commenter predicted new shots like 'flashing a glimpse of Shanks' Abyss arm' getting quietly slipped in. A second flash point was the aging voice cast: veteran Tanaka Mayumi (Luffy's VA, now 71) reportedly turned it down once before accepting, and fans were furious she was being asked to restart a 1,000-plus episode journey. The sardonic close: 'Can you even call it a remake if the original isn't finished? ...Honestly, in a way, it already is.'
