Re:Zero Season 4 has 19 episodes, split into two arcs: the Loss Arc (喪失編, Episodes 1–11) and the Recapture Arc (奪還編, Episodes 12–19). Crunchyroll's summer 2026 lineup, as reported by Anime News Network, lists that second half as Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4 Part 2. Episode 19 is the finale, in the Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026 slot at 22:00 JST on AT-X; ABEMA's slot is 22:30 JST and TOKYO MX's is 23:00 JST. All of those slots fall before midnight, so the Japanese broadcast day and the calendar day are the same.

The season premiered on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活 4th season. The official Japanese site and TV listings keep counting from the earlier seasons, so this run is numbered #67 through #85 there, and the episode table below shows both numbers: Episode 11, the Loss Arc finale on June 17, is #77, and the finale is #85. After June 17 the slot ran a two-part special looking back on the Loss Arc (「喪失編完走スペシャル in 鳥取砂丘」) and reruns of #73–#77, and the Recapture Arc picked up with Episode 12 (#78) on August 12, eight weeks later. The source is Tappei Nagatsuki's light novel series, illustrated by Shinichirō Ōtsuka and published by KADOKAWA.

How Japan watched Season 4

Japan read the Loss Arc finale, Episode 11, as a lesson in structure. For most of the arc, Subaru had lost his memories while everyone around him still remembered him, which is the exact reverse of how Return by Death usually works. The episode snaps him back, through Return by Death, to the series' original setup, where everyone else forgets and only Subaru remembers. That flip is what the comment section under a Japanese recap of the climax kept taking apart, along with the music: Season 1's STYX HELIX under the flashback, then a new version of Stay Alive over the ending.

“Going from the amnesia setup — "Subaru forgets, everyone else remembers him" — and snapping back, through Return by Death, to the series' original "everyone else forgets, and only Subaru remembers"... that's straight-up genius.”

記憶喪失で「スバルは忘れ、周りは覚えてる」って状況から、死に戻りによる本来の「周りは忘れ、スバルは覚えてる」って状況に回帰するのマジで神

— @mutyannFrom: Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 11: The Loss Arc Finale Flips the Series' Own Rule — Japan's Read

Then came the eight-week wait. A Japanese Re:Zero explainer channel called the second half hellish, and viewers answered with the gallows humor this fandom runs on. One reply deadpanned that the warning made it sound as if everything so far hadn't already been hell, and another fan split the whole show into two flavors of it.

“Up to now was a living hell. What's coming is a dying hell.”

今までが生き地獄。 これからが死に地獄

— @アカナシ-y1yFrom: Re:Zero Season 4 Part 2: Fans Brace for the 'Hell' Ahead

Before Episode 12 aired, its official web preview set a strange tone for the Recapture Arc. Subaru hands Meili a plush toy of a magic beast, with plushies of Elsa and the Sin Archbishops elsewhere in the frame. Japanese viewers didn't find it cute. They counted up what those toys stand for and read the whole thing as trauma processing, not a gag.

“He makes plushies of the people who killed him...? What kind of messed-up self-harm hobby is that...”

自分を殺した相手をぬいぐるみで作るのか……何だそのやべえ自傷癖……

— @力士シールFrom: Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 12 Preview: Subaru Turns What Killed Him Into Plushies

Episode 16, on September 9, turned into an argument about adaptation. It spends most of its runtime on a flashback of Subaru relearning his own memories through Rui Arneb's backstory, and a Japanese commentary video reported backlash from Chinese-speaking fans over how much got squeezed into a single regular episode. Japan's comment section mostly defended the staff, though one of the more careful replies drew a line between the flashback itself and what got cut to make room for it.

“It's only a 26-minute slot — they pulled it off well, honestly.”

26分しかないんだから うまくやりきっただろw

— @MOTIMOTI_SAN46From: Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 16: Overseas Fans Call the Cuts Unfair, Japan Pushes Back
“It's not that the flashback itself is bad — it's that what got cut to make room for it, the Rui Arneb material, was a big loss. I think that's what most people are actually angry about.”

回想がダメなんじゃなくて、それと引き換えにカットされたトコ(ルイ関連)がデカすぎるんだよなぁ 大体の人はそこに怒ってるんだと思う

— @みや-t7lFrom: Re:Zero Season 4 Episode 16: Overseas Fans Call the Cuts Unfair, Japan Pushes Back

A Season 4 duel for Julius brought the same debate back from another angle. He gets a big power-up moment, then a stiff, shuffling walk cycle that fans nicknamed "toko-toko." One camp pointed to the production schedule and told armchair critics to back off; another broke the scene down shot by shot, and one reply tied the heat to good source scenes that got cut. Plenty of people just landed in the middle, annoyed for a few seconds and then weirdly fond of it.

“Glad it's not just me. It was kind of like "whoa... whooaaa!! whoa, huh? ...oh" — but I ended up satisfied either way. Personally, I love Julius's toko-toko walk.”

自分だけじゃなくてよかった なんか 「おぉ…おおおお!!おお、、?お〜」って感じで最終的には満足した ユリウストコトコ個人的には大好き

— @runa_0138From: Re:Zero Season 4: Julius's Duel Splits Japanese Fans Over a Shuffling Walk Cycle

What ties these threads together is that Japanese viewers read Season 4 closely enough to argue about what got cut, and still stood up for the people who cut it. The episode table above links the full threads.

FAQ

How many episodes does Re:Zero Season 4 have?
19: 11 in the Loss Arc (喪失編) and 8 in the Recapture Arc (奪還編), according to the official site. Japanese TV listings continue the count from earlier seasons, so the same run appears there as #67 through #85.
When does Re:Zero Season 4 end?
With Episode 19 (#85), in the Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026 slot. AT-X has it first at 22:00 JST, ABEMA's slot is 22:30 JST and TOKYO MX's is 23:00 JST. AT-X's schedule marks #85 as the final episode (終), and ABEMA's press release calls it the 4th season's last episode. We couldn't confirm a Crunchyroll release time.
What is Re:Zero Season 4 Part 2 (cour 2)?
It's the Recapture Arc (奪還編), the eight episodes from Episode 12 (#78) to the finale. Official Japanese sources call it 《奪還編》, and Crunchyroll's summer 2026 lineup, as reported by Anime News Network, calls it Season 4 Part 2. It began on Aug. 12, 2026, after the slot spent the weeks since the Loss Arc finale on a two-part special and reruns.
Is there a Re:Zero Season 5?
Not announced as of Sept. 23, 2026. The official site's news page, Anime News Network's encyclopedia entry and AniList list no fifth season or sequel, and the blog and social posts calling Season 5 confirmed don't trace back to an official source we could find.
Where can I watch Re:Zero Season 4?
In North America, Crunchyroll streams it; we couldn't confirm Crunchyroll's full list of regions. For India, Muse Asia and Anime Times (on Prime Video) both announced it in their spring 2026 lineups. In Japan, ABEMA and d Anime Store are the first streaming services, at 22:30 JST on Wednesdays (after AT-X's 22:00 broadcast and ahead of terrestrial TV); other services, including Netflix, Prime Video, U-NEXT and Hulu, follow from Saturday 22:30 JST onward.
