Ranma ½ Season 3's Second PV Drops to Nostalgia and Disbelief at the Glow-Up

“The manga ended 30 years ago, and here we are getting Ranma all the way to a third season in the Reiwa era — pure joy!!!”
Ranma ½ Season 3 dropped its second PV, and the most-liked Japanese reactions were equal parts nostalgia and disbelief at the glow-up. The recurring notes: that a manga which ended over 30 years ago is somehow back in the Reiwa era looking like a movie, gratitude for Rumiko Takahashi's seemingly endless run of adaptations, and very specific excitement over the deep-cut arcs fans assumed a remake would cut — the Bakusai Tenketsu episodes, Pantyhose Taro, the love-potion chapter skipped in Season 2. There's a quiet worry too (three seasons won't be nearly enough for 40 volumes), but the loudest feeling is gratitude, with one fan summing it up: this is 'glad I lived long enough' territory.
Japanese fan reactions (excerpted from 538)
This is 'glad I lived long enough' territory. So grateful I get to enjoy a series I was obsessed with as a kid all over again.
— @Hk-u4g5d74 likesKind of makes me tear up. I'm just grateful.
— @eri70934 likesThe quality has gone up like crazy. It never really becomes a talking point as a Netflix title, but I guess the funding really is generous, huh.
210 likesClassic MAPPA 👏 The art is so good I'm genuinely moved! Looks like a ton of new characters are coming, can't wait 😊
— @AKiHo_61674 likesFeels like I'm watching a movie trailer…
SUN45 likesThe art is so good!! Like it took the best of the 90s and the Reiwa era.
6 likesSince Season 3 the art quality is almost too clean and the visuals really hit ❗️ I want it to keep going from a Season 4 all the way to the final chapter!
— @super-hero2591 likesI saw someone point out that the character designs don't feel dated like the old Rumic era — there's a cuteness that lands in Reiwa too — and I really think that's true… the designs, the outfits, all of it is great.
— @わさび野郎-u1v2 likesMAO airs through September, then Ranma starts in October — Rumiko-sensei is incredible.

Rumiko Takahashi's works get adapted so much it's honestly funny. Give us an Inuyasha remake or a Rinne Season 4 next, please.

— @黒金-w3o3 likesGo! Just barrel straight through to the 'Pantyhose Taro' arc!!
— @ngc5339172 likesI love the Bakusai Tenketsu episodes, so I'm beyond excited 😂 My girl Akane getting fought over by two good-looking guys is just too precious…
— @らんこ-l4l166 likesYou can tell they poured serious effort into the Bakusai Tenketsu episodes.
— @シヨウ-f2m47 likesThey're doing the love-potion episode in Season 3 that got skipped in Season 2!!! It's one of my absolute favorites so I'm sooo hyped!
— @honeyricecakeicecream-san15 likesIt's packed with the goofy episodes I'd instantly assumed 'I don't dislike these, but they'll definitely get cut in a remake' — so now my expectations are ballooning: 'are they actually planning to run this all the way to the end?!'
— @perinor1P8411 likesKurenai Tsubasa, the martial-arts tea ceremony, the mountain training… laying it all out, the scary part is three seasons is nowhere near enough episodes for this series.
— @rittobas495563 likesI've read the original manga… and I love the Bakusai Tenketsu arc so I'm excited!! I'm a Ranma fan, but Ryoga tries so hard here that I couldn't help rooting for him!
— @chi---yan431014 likesRyoga is just too cool 😭😭 I can't wait for Season 3!!! Getting the Tsubasa episodes AND the tea-ceremony episodes remade is way too hype!!!
— @ゆうみ-m3g27 likesThe way these legendary voice actors keep leveling up knows no bounds… it's amazing.
— @hemosu7721 likesThere really is a kind of nourishment you can only get from the original cast.
— @ヒデhm3737-l2b11 likesI think MAPPA's president once said it's planned for 8 cours / 100 episodes. The manga was 40 volumes, so at 4–5 volumes per cour, that math checks out.
— @TomokoWada-ib7ej8 likesInuyasha's Final Act was way too rushed. Cramming it into two cours was always a stretch.
3 likesThe number of comments from hardcore overseas fans is getting insane.

At the June 9th Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally announced a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, timed to the series' 40th anniversary. We pulled the top reactions from Japanese fans watching live — and the recurring theme wasn't the graphics. It was how instantly they recognized the game: many say they knew before Link ever appeared on screen, the moment Saria's Song played right after the word "Hyrule." From there the thread spirals into open tears over Link's unchanged N64 voice, a wishlist begging for Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess next, a theory that the upcoming Zelda movie might be Ocarina-based, and a wave of newcomers asking if it's okay to start the legend here. It all ends on a deep-cut joke only a true Ocarina veteran would make.

Re:Zero's official Break Time short for Episode 78, 「裏稼業姉妹暗躍日報」, went up the same night Season 4's second cour premiered, and it shows an early Elsa-and-Meili job where a bodyguard cuts off Elsa's arm — which then grows back while she tells Meili one arm is a cheap price for her sister being safe. Across 290 comments, Japanese viewers spent far less time on the sisters than on the man who managed it: the loudest recurring line is some version of "anyone who can take Elsa's arm has to be seriously strong," followed by a wave of One Piece jokes about Elsa out-Shanks-ing Shanks. The one real disagreement is how strong that bodyguard actually was, and it gets settled with a quote from the author. Under that runs a quieter thread about the box Elsa is carrying, and about Elsa being someone the main story can't show anymore. Two of the three highest-liked comments on the video are not analysis at all — one is a life decision, and the other is the reply that lands it.

A Japanese anime commentary channel built a video around a moment from Chainsmoker Cat that imagines the same relationship dynamic drawn as a realistic middle-aged smoker instead of a cute catgirl — and asks whether viewers would still find it charming. Across 548 comments, the top reply pulled nearly 2,900 likes for pointing out that the show only stays watchable because its character design is doing all the emotional labor: swap the cute art for something realistic, commenters argued, and the exact same behavior reads as pathetic rather than endearing. The thread turned into a broader, half-joking, half-serious argument about how much of anime and manga in general survives purely on appealing character design. It ends with someone quietly noting that the real fantasy was never the cuteness — it's that these people get to be happy at all.

Why Japanese Anime Keeps Winning: What Japan's Own Comment Sections Give Away
Ask why Japanese anime is so hard to beat and the answer usually comes back as a pile of nouns. Budgets. Sakuga. I spend my nights reading and translating Japanese comment sections, a few thousand at a time, and from that side of the glass the answer sits much further upstream. Not in the show you streamed. In everything that got cut before it ever reached you. That part never shows up on a timeline.
