Lao-Shan Lung & Kushala Are Back in Wilds: Ascendance — Japanese Hunters React: "Fun… the First Time, at Least"
“I can say with full confidence that Lao-Shan Lung is fun. The first time, at least.”
Capcom's Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance reveal confirmed the return of two classic Elder Dragons — the fortress-siege titan Lao-Shan Lung and the storm-wreathed Kushala Daora. But while the Western reaction was mostly pure hype, Japanese veteran hunters met the news with something far more complicated. The thread is a tug-of-war between deep nostalgia ("just seeing Lao-Shan Lung in HD is enough") and hard-earned skepticism about whether Lao's slow siege grind will actually be fun, or a chore by the third hunt. Along the way they argue whether Kushala will be Rise- or World-based, bet that Chameleos gets benched yet again, and split hard over whether 'the grind IS the fun' or just busywork. It ends on the single most battle-scarred prediction only a longtime hunter could make.

Just getting to see Lao-Shan Lung in modern HD is already more than enough to make me happy.
- @daedae0p👍 9
I love Kushala Daora's design so much, and its Dual Blades look incredibly cool — absolute favorite. Bring Glavenus, Astalos and Gammoth back too while you're at it!
- @upoopo24👍 2
Lao really gives you that 'defending the village' feeling — I hunted him over and over. I love him that much, so honestly I'm thrilled 😊
I'm convinced 100% of Lao's fun was way back when friends crammed into one room and we just goofed off — panic-dodging his tail, knocking each other into weird spots, being idiots together.
He was 4th in the urgent-quest lineup. I'll never forget sticking it out for three runs in a row and having everyone else bail on me.
- @CB-baseball-like👍 12
So nostalgic. On pure tankiness alone he was the gatekeeper of Generations Ultimate, and the second you finally beat him everyone ran Lao weapons.
For now I'm just praying Lao doesn't turn into a slog once they bolt him onto all of Wilds' new gimmicks.
- @user-Pinsir👍 6
A Lao-Shan Lung that moves at lightning speed is just Godzilla at that point.
That said, I really don't want them suddenly cranking Lao's entire moveset into hyperspeed out of nowhere either 😅
- @FOREVER238n👍 48
It'd honestly be hilarious if you could pull a Levi-style spin-slash off the top of Lao's head and just go flying off into the distance forever.
- @tosaayu1👍 6
It'll be fun, sure, but the DPS is going to be miserably low and I can already picture it becoming a chore by the third hunt.
- @magemages👍 5
So he's only fun the first time, huh… that's ominous.
But that grind IS the fun part. I would like to state this for the record.
- @aki_0613👍 4
Grindy quests are fun though, c'mon.
Lao's whole appeal is the chaotic teamwork of that grind. Some people find it fun, some don't — but honestly that's true of every single monster.
- @dishwasher_4176👍 27
Ideal Lao: a siege kill in the final area the first time, and after that you can just take him down out on the map, the way Hard Lao worked.
Regular Lao could actually be taken down out on the map in Frontier too, as long as you met the conditions.
If Kushala came back in its Rise spec I'd be happy, but knowing the dev team, there's zero chance.
Is Kushala going to be Rise-based or World-based? Only Capcom knows.
Honestly, I'm a little burned out on hunting Kushala… I'd much rather get a revived Frontier monster!
I can totally see them rolling out Kushala and Teostra, benching Chameleos yet again, and dropping a brand-new Elder Dragon into that slot.
- @yooosei👍 2
Chameleos is just off hiding somewhere, like always.
- @canipilaf👍 3
Honestly, more than whether each monster is fun to hunt, I just want a TON of monsters so my builds and layered-armor options open way up.
- @tarako777👍 5
Guess we'll never see the likes of Jhen Mohran or the giant-mantis types come back, much as I love them.
And once they speed him up → fortress getting smashed to pieces → if you don't interrupt him, I can already see the fastest siege-fail loss in history coming, clear as day.

🎮 GamesGamesYouTubeGenshin's "The Final Gift" Animated Short — How Japanese Fans Reacted to the Harbingers' Slumber Party: "She's THIS Adorable, and We Never Saw a Single Frame of It Before She Died."
Genshin Impact's new animated short "The Final Gift" dropped on the game's Japanese channel, and instead of villains it shows four of the Fatui Harbingers — Sandrone, Columbina, La Signora (Rosalyne), and Arlecchino — having a private, pajama-clad slumber party. The most-liked Japanese reactions weren't about the lore drops; they were about the gut-punch of seeing this warmth at all. The recurring theme is the cruelty of the gap: the comment thread keeps circling the fact that these are characters Japanese players only ever knew as cold antagonists — "The Knave" relaxed enough to laugh out loud and lose a pillow fight, the tsundere Marionette gone completely soft, Columbina just standing at the door singing — and above all Rosalyne, the caring big-sister of the group, who in the main story dies in Inazuma before showing a millimeter of this side. Fans rewrite the family roles (mischievous mother, watchful father), debate whether she's a villain or just "someone who loved an ordinary love and drowned in it," and note how her in-game lines now land completely differently. It builds to one bittersweet wish that only a Genshin player would phrase exactly this way.

🎮 GamesGamesYouTubeOcarina of Time Remake: How Japanese Fans Reacted — "We Knew From a Single Note"
At the June 9th Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally announced a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, timed to the series' 40th anniversary. We pulled the top reactions from Japanese fans watching live — and the recurring theme wasn't the graphics. It was how instantly they recognized the game: many say they knew before Link ever appeared on screen, the moment Saria's Song played right after the word "Hyrule." From there the thread spirals into open tears over Link's unchanged N64 voice, a wishlist begging for Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess next, a theory that the upcoming Zelda movie might be Ocarina-based, and a wave of newcomers asking if it's okay to start the legend here. It all ends on a deep-cut joke only a true Ocarina veteran would make.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeWhy Kaiju No. 8 Never Caught Fire in Japan: Japanese Fans React — "They Made a Mediocre Story... Mediocre."
Kaiju No. 8 was one of the biggest manga launches of its era — 14 million copies in print, a glossy Production I.G anime, an OP by an internationally famous band. So Western fans are often surprised to learn it left a lot of Japanese readers cold. This reaction thread, built around a Japanese fan-critic's video literally titled "Why didn't the Kaiju No. 8 anime catch on," is one of the bluntest looks you'll find at that homegrown disappointment. The recurring themes: that the genuinely great opening hook — a middle-aged ex-kaiju-cleanup worker using his cleanup know-how to fight monsters — got quietly abandoned the moment Kafka joined the Defense Force; that these "kaiju" feel less like Godzilla and more like talking, human-sized people in monster suits; that the much-memed "left elbow, right elbow" copy-paste panel became a punchline; and that fans kept name-dropping a different manga, Rai Rai Rai, as "the Kaiju No. 8 we actually wanted." The most quietly devastating line in the whole thread isn't even an insult — it's a correction to the video's own title.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeWhy Did Levi Survive Attack on Titan? Japanese Fans React — "He Wasn't Lucky. The Brigade Is Worth One Levi."
Levi Ackerman walking out of Attack on Titan alive is one of the manga's quietest miracles — a fan-favorite everyone was bracing to lose, who somehow made it to the final page. A Japanese reaction clip revisiting his survival blew up, and the most-liked Japanese comments turn it into the debate the West never quite settles in English: was it luck, or was it the point? The thread opens on the franchise's most-quoted scrap of dialogue — "Levi is worth an entire brigade" — and the running joke that the truer reading is the reverse: this brigade is worth one Levi. From there the recurring themes were two: the very Japanese reading-experience of following the series purely terrified of when Levi would finally die ("the story took a back seat"), and a serious, citation-heavy fan theory that his survival was never luck at all — that an awakened Ackerman senses lethal danger through the Paths, the way only he and Mikasa flinched at Zeke's rockslide from inside the airship. The luck-camp pushes back, the theory-camp digs in, and somewhere in the middle someone just says he's too short to hit. It lands on the only conclusion the comment section could reach about a 160cm man who dodges everything.
