『怪獣8号』完結編（アニメ第3期）の製作決定PVが、2025年12月20日の「ジャンプフェスタ2026」で発表され、オリジナルショートアニメ『鳴海の平日』の情報とともにTOHO animation公式チャンネルのコメント欄へ海外ファンが押し寄せた。原作漫画が2025年に全16巻で完結済みの作品だけに、まず噴き出したのは“もう最終章なのか”という驚きと寂しさ。そこから『たった3期で終わりかよ』と物足りなさを訴える派と、『これぞ量より質、クソみたいな引き伸ばし回(フィラー)なんて要らない』と擁護する派がぶつかり合った。やがて話題は、この作品を“最後までアニメでやり切ってくれる”ことへの安堵、また劇場版ではなくシリーズで最後まで観たいという期待、そして『原作の結末より良い終わり方にしてほしい』という完結編への注文へと流れていく。最後は、尺の短さを散々議論した果てにぽつりと落ちる“ある一言”で、この騒ぎが妙に腑に落ちて終わる。

この作品の良さは、無駄に話を複雑にしようとしないところ。ここ数年で出た中でも屈指の名作だわ
The beauty of this show is, it doesn't try to overcomplicate things. One of the best to come out in recent years.

それでいいんだよ。何もかも長けりゃいいってもんじゃない。アニメ黄金期の80年代なんて、名作の多くがたった一本のOVA（TV放送すらされないビデオ直販）だったんだから
That's good. Not everything has to be long. The golden era of anime, the 80s'a lot of epic stuff were literally just one-shot OVA's (direct to video releases, not even on TV)

もう少し長くてもよかった気はする…けど、下手な引き伸ばし回を入れずに今ある内容で最高のクオリティに仕上げてるのはいいよな。まあ、原作から離れてスピンオフをやるって手もあるし
wish it was a bit longer though... but its nice they don't put fillers and make the best quality of what it is. Maybe.. they can spin off away from the manga

ここ数年で一番の掘り出し物だった。原作も追ってなかったし、このジャンルのファンってわけでもなかったのに。頼むから綺麗に終わってくれ！
One of the best surprises in recent years, since I didn't follow the manga, nor am I a fan of the genre. I hope it has a good ending!

3期でちゃんと続きから始まるよ。あれは引き（クリフハンガー）だったからな。まあ、確かにちょっと変な終わらせ方だったのは認めるわ、笑
it picks up in S3 it was like a cliffhanger, but they did end it kind of odd though lol.

2期は単体で観るとぶっちゃけ微妙だったけど、全部終わってみれば1期と3期を繋ぐ役割としてちゃんと機能するはず。3期は絶対ヤバいものになると俺は賭けるね
S2 was complete ass by itself but it will do well bridging the narrative from S1 and S3 to form a complete series once the whole thing is finished, I bet S3 is going to be badass.

怪獣8号は短編なんだよな。ダラダラ続かなかったのは嬉しいけど、終わっちゃうのは寂しい。作者が次に何を作るのか楽しみだわ
Kaiju no. 8 is a short story. I'm glad it didn't go on forever but I'm sad to see it go. Looking forward to what the author makes next.
