安定して作画と演出は良いんだけどね。単純に話が面白くない。自社レーベルラノベだったからアニメ化したのであって、本来京アニがアニメにする水準の原作じゃないと思う。 京アニの自社レーベルラノベアニメは昔っからそういうとこある。手放しで良いと言えるのはヴァイオレットくらいじゃなかろうか。

  • Once the mismatched visual style starts bothering you, it does get hard to focus on the story itself. The sudden shifts into a different art style or texture come across as bold and interesting to some viewers, while for others they break immersion and just feel off. I think that's a big part of why opinions on this show are so split.

  • It's a pretty experimental show, isn't it. Becoming "a different Kyoto Animation" may have been something they eventually had to aim for, but I can't help feeling that losing so many of their staff in that incident plays a big part in it. I'm hoping they use this "experiment" as fuel to grow even further. (Maybe it's deliberately experimental because the theme itself is "invention"…?)

  • The BGM in this scene is great too! I got into Kyoto Animation through Sound! Euphonium last year, so this feels like a reward of an anime (plus Sora Amamiya's in the cast).

  • It's a carefully crafted show, very Kyoto Animation, but the plotting — whether that's on the source material or not — feels convenient, and it bothers me. There's no emotional core to it yet either, nothing like Sound! Euphonium's "I could die from how frustrated I am."

  • I'm watching this as a story about Kihachi pulling himself out of a depression triggered by losing his brother, or something like that, so I don't think I can really judge it until the finale. Violet Evergarden had that same "who even is this person" feeling around episode 3 too, if I remember right (and of course there turned out to be a real reason for that, plus actual growth).

    喜八が兄を失った?事から鬱状態になってるのを立ち直る話かなと見てるので、結局これも最終話まで見ないと判断つかないかなと思ってます ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデンもちょうど3話くらいのころは、ヴァイオレットがなんだこいつ感ありましたしね（当然そういう理由付けはちゃんとあったし成長もした）

  • I'm following it on TV broadcast, but I wonder if this is a show whose intent only becomes clear once you rewatch it all in one go after it's finished. The problem is, the only way to do that is Netflix. There's a real chance it just fades away without ever getting the reappraisal it deserves.
