Engineering, I'm guessing? Rooting for you — from a former engineer.

It's a carefully crafted show, very Kyoto Animation, but the plotting — whether that's on the source material or not — feels convenient, and it bothers me. There's no emotional core to it yet either, nothing like Sound! Euphonium's "I could die from how frustrated I am."
No matter how hard it looks, I can't help but admire "making things."
I get "the facial acting gets in the way."
Kyoto Animation doesn't need that Fujio Akatsuka flavor.

I'm watching this as a story about Kihachi pulling himself out of a depression triggered by losing his brother, or something like that, so I don't think I can really judge it until the finale.
Violet Evergarden had that same "who even is this person" feeling around episode 3 too, if I remember right (and of course there turned out to be a real reason for that, plus actual growth).
Excited to see how Kihachi's catalog keeps growing out of this.
I'm following it on TV broadcast, but I wonder if this is a show whose intent only becomes clear once you rewatch it all in one go after it's finished. The problem is, the only way to do that is Netflix. There's a real chance it just fades away without ever getting the reappraisal it deserves.
I really love this scene.
I'm a sucker for watching friends grind through building something together!
It feels like the direction crams in so much that nothing actually leaves an impression. What it needs is direction that's actually trying to entertain.

What matters isn't the animation, it's the script, structure, and direction.
Even a band full of hot guys won't sell if the songs are bad.
Making things and running experiments as a student is so fun! The music's lovely too 🎺 — and the way they show the glass changing under heat, the thickness, the transparency, the light, it's all drawn so well.
Honestly, it's a show that's way too into exaggerated facial acting.
And even when people say the animation's good, there's a visceral "ugh" to it for me.
If it's a story about young people chasing a dream, the acting should be more restrained.
I thought the same thing about their last show, CITY —
is Kyoto Animation leaning on animation quality too much lately?
There are plenty of other things that make up an anime,
and good animation shouldn't mean the rest gets a pass.
I love this scene where they're trying to make something that doesn't exist yet in the world. It gets me — the things we take for granted only exist because someone put in the effort and the time.
