Re:Zero Season 4: Japanese Fans React to Its Record Acclaim — "This Is Hands-Down the Season's Champion"
“Re:Zero is this season's champion, right? The art, the story, the characters, the music — every single part is god-tier.”
On Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, Japanese fans reacted to reports that Season 4 has hit record overseas acclaim by simply crowning it this season's champion. The thread broke down WHY it holds up after four seasons: a Return by Death loop story that still builds a real payoff every single cour, "Stay Alive" wrecking everyone again, Yusuke Kobayashi's voice acting, and the gut-punch "even if you forget, I'll remember" callback. The mood is proud — the world finally gets it — with web-novel readers grinning at how much better the Recovery arc gets, and one closing line that says it all about how Subaru dies for a living.

It was so good I'd fully buy people calling it the season's champion. And I've got nothing but hype for the Recovery arc next cour!!

Re:Zero is blowing up right now both here and overseas — it really is that good.
- @auau742-f5l👍 14
Honestly, it's deserved. The episodes were just peak.
Most long-running shows hit a dull cour somewhere past season 3, but Re:Zero is a Return by Death loop story that still always builds a real money-shot scene every single time — the structural craft is insane.
- @narr_7069👍 10
Re:Zero never drags, and every single character has flavor. Most shows have a few jobbers or pure exposition characters, but this one squeezes the absolute max out of the Return by Death premise.
- @Loton.0913👍 62
The key is that it's not just 'reset and try harder' — the author clearly understands the weaknesses and blind spots of the time-loop and actually plays into them. The way the characters are written is top-tier too. Genuinely incredible.
It's not just good character handling — they keep messing with memory loss, name erasure, Return by Death, all this stuff that warps a character's setup and past, and yet the characters never lose their consistency. The author does nothing but horrible things to them, but you can tell he loves every one of them equally.
The source material is a monster. Seeing it animated makes you feel just how absurdly good Nagatsuki's plotting is.

"Stay Alive" is so peak it genuinely floored me.
If you listen closely "STYX HELIX" is playing under it too, and that broke me.
- @okennn👍 2
That final "Stay Alive" is just cheating. Of course that's gonna make you cry.
- @t4kiQ_ooタキ👍 169
Season 1 trained my body to start crying the second "Stay Alive" drops.
Yusuke Kobayashi's performance was way too good. So much flavor in it.
- @M1S0soup858👍 14
I don't know that era well enough to say for sure, but landing a real gem like Yusuke Kobayashi back when he probably hadn't gotten many big roles yet was honestly a miracle. I genuinely think he alone makes the show 50% more fun. One of the best voice actors in the world at dying.
- @rancoco4on👍 53
The voice acting too, especially Yusuke Kobayashi as Subaru — incredible. Seriously, everything about it is the best.
Going from "even if you forget, I'll remember" to the callback "even if you forget, I'll remember for you" — that's just masterful.
Back in the loot cellar, Emilia didn't know Subaru, risked her life for him anyway, then asked his name — and now they flip it: from Subaru's side, with no memories, this Emilia who's somehow kind to him is the one asking HIS name. That parallel structure is just too good, and the direction is god-tier on top of it.
- @9awkfne336👍 18
Oh, I didn't even catch that. So Subaru being bewildered by someone being kind to him was mirroring Emilia being bewildered by Subaru's kindness back then…
- @nandakanan1984👍 60
Emilia is so kind she literally looks like a saint, and then Subaru finally grasps his own situation and commits to protecting her — it's the ultimate form of a hero and his heroine, embodied.
- @tukimurakagerou👍 32
Subaru lost his memories and nearly fell into total distrust of everyone, but the way he picked himself back up in the finale was so moving 🥲 So hyped for the Recovery arc!
- @bibit9789👍 57
Anime gets me misty sometimes, but ugly-crying this hard hadn't happened in a while. Re:Zero is like this every season — the deeper the despair, the more insane the catharsis when it turns upward. Can't wait for the Recovery arc.
So satisfying. I think it's been ages since an anime made me cry. The direction that called back to Season 1 was the best. I'm so glad I found Re:Zero.
Seriously, it's wall-to-wall iconic scenes. With most shows, even if they got four seasons, I couldn't confidently name 10 standout moments — but with Re:Zero I could do it no problem. What an incredible work.
Re:Zero is honestly too good as a story. The characters, the script, the dialogue — all the best.
The exchange with Emilia hit like the legendary Rem episode and left me moved all over again.
- @mameshiba-san👍 10
They drew the gore without nerfing it, even though broadcast TV tends to censor that stuff these days. Subaru in pieces, Anastasia cut clean in half, bones and flesh and organs — it's painful to look at, which cranks the immersion, the despair, and the horror way up. So good…
Everything up to here was the mystery half, and from here it's the solving half — that's brutal (in the best way).
- @Barrettepurin👍 41
It's already at a level I'm fully satisfied with, and yet the Recovery arc is still waiting up ahead — that's just overpowered. Re:Zero making you stare into total despair and then flooring it straight into hope is just the best, I love it.
It only gets ridiculously good from here, so go ahead and hype it up at full throttle.
- @kankae111👍 162
By the way, the reason Arc 6 is so beloved among source readers is that it stays great the whole way from here on.
- @mewrakuda6449👍 8
Congrats to everyone who's anime-only. The Recovery arc is even more of a masterpiece.
- @johnranten👍 17
After dragging the hero all the way down to rock bottom, the Recovery arc's catharsis explosion is impossible not to look forward to. If this much acclaim came during just the build-up phase, what on earth is next cour going to do?
The next broadcast is in August and I want to see it way too badly already.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeRe:Zero Season 4 Part 2: Japanese Fans Brace for the "Hell" Ahead — "As If Everything Until Now Wasn't Already Hell"
Re:Zero Season 4's second cour is being billed as the show's most brutal stretch yet, and the top Japanese comments answered with the franchise's signature mix of dread and dark comedy. The most-liked reply just deadpanned that calling it 'hell' implies the rest wasn't — and from there fans spiraled into Re:Zero's own coping meme, announcing they were off to 'go wash a cup' to escape the despair. Web-novel readers quietly raised the stakes (one says Subaru death-loops 25 times in this arc), fans clocked that the pile under everyone's feet in the key visual is a mountain of Subaru's corpses, and through all of it the verdict held: this is going to be the most thrilling cour they've ever watched. The closing mood, after all the suffering: someone, please just apologize to Subaru.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeRe:Zero Season 4 Finale — How Japanese Fans Reacted: "It Was Never About His Memories. It Was His Resolve."
Re:Zero's Season 4 mid-season finale — the climax of the amnesia-driven "Loss" arc (喪失編) — landed in Japan, and the most-liked Japanese reactions didn't fixate on the action. They fixated on the architecture. The reaction that rose to the top points out a structural reversal only longtime fans clocked: the arc spends episodes with an amnesiac Subaru as the one who forgets while everyone remembers him, then snaps back — through Return by Death — to the series' original engine, where everyone forgets and only Subaru remembers. From there the thread becomes a love letter to the writing: a reading that Subaru never needed his memories, only his resolve; the way Emilia asking his name mirrors the very first episode (right down to a chapter-title pun that quietly turns "Zero" into "Re:Zero"); and the gut-punch of hearing STYX HELIX and Stay Alive — the Season 1 songs — return at the exact right moment. It all closes on the kind of one-line verdict only a Re:Zero fan would land.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeChō-Jun! Chōjō-senpai Anime PV: Japanese Fans React to a Redemption — "The Manga That Got Axed, Then Won a Prize and Got an Anime"
On the first main PV for the TV anime "Chō-Jun! Chōjō-senpai" (from Samon the Summoner mangaka Shun Numa, airing October 2026), Japanese fans turned the comments into a full vindication party. The most-liked reply summed the whole arc up — a manga that got cancelled, then won a major manga award and got animated anyway — and from there fans waded into nostalgia for the Samon days, relief that Numa is finally being rewarded, genuine surprise that the art looks great, and a chorus begging for Samon the Summoner to get its own anime next. They even clocked the lead voice as the guy you hear on every Nintendo Switch ad. The closing mood: people quietly admitting they were trying very hard not to cry over this.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeNeko to Ryū (The Cat and the Dragon): Japanese Fans React to the PV — "Takehito Koyasu's Gentle Voice Heals My Whole Body"
On the 2nd PV for Neko to Ryū (The Cat and the Dragon), the cozy July 2026 fantasy anime, Japanese fans went straight for the warm fuzzies. The top comments melted over Takehito Koyasu voicing a gentle dragon — "is there really an anime where I get to hear Koyasu this calm?" — while another wave celebrated the Yorushika-flavored music team (suis singing, Kitani Tatsuya on the song). Then the mood turned tender as readers braced themselves for one character's storyline, half-laughing that just hearing the name is enough to start the waterworks.
