One Piece Episode 1168: Shamrock's Kerberos Devil Fruit Reveal — What Japan Said

Across 160 comments, One Piece anime episode 1168 revealed that Shamrock's sword holds the Kerberos zoan devil fruit, and Japanese fans immediately zeroed in on what it does to a long-running fan theory: that Blackbeard secretly ate the Kerberos fruit himself. The top reaction (601 likes) says it outright — the anime staff clearly timed this reveal to kill that theory once and for all, since a three-headed dog now living inside someone else's sword makes the "Blackbeard is Kerberos" idea structurally impossible. From there the thread splits into two running debates: whether the ability itself (heads flying off the sword to stab things) is a disappointingly plain way to debut a mythical zoan, and the bigger mystery nobody can crack — how do you even feed a devil fruit to an inanimate sword in the first place. It closes on fans just laughing at how silly the whole spinning-collar mechanic looks in motion.

Episode 1168 reveals that Shamrock's sword holds the Kerberos zoan devil fruit — a three-headed hellhound fruit that fans have been speculating about for years — and Japanese fans immediately zeroed in on what that does to a long-running fan theory: that Blackbeard secretly ate the Kerberos fruit himself. Out of 160 comments on the reveal, the top-liked one says it outright, and gets right to the point about why.

They 100% did this specifically to kill the "Teach is Kerberos" theory dead.

It's not universal relief, though. A fair number of commenters actually preferred the old theory — a three-headed dog hiding inside Blackbeard's own darkness powers felt like a tidier answer than the one the anime just handed everyone.

Honestly, the "Blackbeard is Kerberos" theory was the cleaner explanation.

From there the pile-on writes itself, half genuine theorizing and half just riffing on the timing of the reveal.

With the theory question mostly settled, the thread pivots to a second, less flattering debate: whether the ability itself is actually any good, now that everyone's actually seen it in motion instead of just theorizing about it.

Kerberos doesn't really have that kind of ability in mythology anyway, and honestly it didn't even need to be Kerberos specifically.

It's drawn to look cool, but if the ability is really just "three heads fly off and stab something," that's a pretty plain debut.

It's not a small complaint, either — a mythical zoan debuting for the first time is supposed to feel like an event, and "three heads fly off and stab something" isn't landing that way for a lot of readers.

So after awakening, all it does is launch three big blades? Kind of weak. Even if it can do more later, the first big reveal is supposed to have impact — this doesn't.

But the bigger mystery nobody in the comments can actually crack isn't the ability — it's the mechanism behind it. Devil fruits are supposed to be biological. Swords are not.

I really want to know HOW they got a sword to eat a devil fruit in the first place.

The theorizing gets surprisingly technical from there, with commenters reaching all the way back to Vegapunk's machinery for an explanation.

Come to think of it, the technology for feeding a Zoan fruit to an inanimate object still hasn't been revealed. Is it some kind of alchemy-like synthesis using one of Vegapunk's machines?

By the end, the thread has mostly given up on serious analysis and settled into just making fun of how the whole thing looks in motion.

Personally I think the hound of hell suits Red-Black's crew — Shamrock's sword gets Kerberos, and Shanks' sword gets a Griffin.

So the spiky collar just spins around and flies off? That's the kind of dumb move a middle schooler would come up with.

This is basically just a Kerberos-shaped launcher firing drones! Where'd the swordsmanship go, Shamrock?!

One theory dead, one new power nobody's fully sold on, and a devil-fruit-eating sword that nobody — least of all the comment section — can actually explain. Kerberos got its debut. The comment section just isn't convinced it was worth the wait.

FAQ

How does the Kerberos reveal affect the "Blackbeard is Kerberos" theory?
The top comment (601 likes) argues the anime staff timed the reveal specifically to kill the theory: since the Kerberos fruit is now confirmed to live inside Shamrock's sword, Blackbeard can't secretly be Kerberos himself anymore. Some commenters admitted they preferred the old theory as the cleaner explanation.
What's the unresolved mystery fans keep bringing up?
Commenters can't figure out how a devil fruit — normally something eaten by a living being — ends up powering an inanimate sword. Theories in the comments range from devil-fruit juice mixed into the forging process to Vegapunk-built machinery doing some kind of synthesis.
