Chainsaw Man: Japanese Fans React to the Ending — "Part 1 Wrapped Up So Clean, I Never Expected a Part 2"
“Honestly, Part 1 wrapped up so cleanly that I never expected a Part 2... makes you wonder if he was pressured into it”
When Chainsaw Man's manga wrapped its Part 2 story in June 2026, Japanese readers turned the comment section of a reaction video into a genuine post-mortem of the ending. The most-liked comment argued Part 1 closed so perfectly that Part 2 must have been forced into existence, and the recurring theme was 'the buildup got skipped, but the punchline was fine' — alongside real affection for new character Asa Mitaka and even a wordplay theory defending Tatsuki Fujimoto's ambiguous finale as intentional. Through all of it, one thing barely wavered: readers still trust Fujimoto, whatever he does next.

The anime should've ended with the Makima arc
Seriously, the anime should stop at Part 1
- @tetonano9111👍 62
Even going back to Part 1, the concept itself was genuinely great — if they'd used the 'bugs get stronger as death disappears' idea well, it could've been amazing
- @tho3653👍 111
Part 2 was actually great up through the fight against Falling Devil. What happened to it after that? It went completely limp
Chopping his own head up was peak. And 'whoa, did Denji actually overcome his trauma?' — the motorcycle scene after that was good too. But at some point I lost track of what he was even doing, or why, or where
The punchline itself was fine, but they skipped way too much of the buildup. I thought King Crimson had erased my memory of it or something
Skipping a bunch of stuff and landing somewhere confusing is very on-brand for Tatsuki Fujimoto, honestly — his short story collections are full of that. It's just that Part 1's ending was too perfect for comparison
It was enjoyable, but the whole Bug Devil stretch at the end felt like a waste. I get that he doesn't draw pointless fight scenes, so he probably cut it — but if Denji had at least struggled against the outcome before getting devoured, instead of it just happening, I think a lot more people would've accepted the ending

Part 2 felt like it stayed at 'okay, this is about to get amazing' the whole time without ever actually developing. The scene where the US rebuilds its power with new nukes was genuinely brilliant, but that momentum never went anywhere and just flatlined. On top of that, a lot of the new characters who still had more to give got killed off too early, so most of them never got to show what made them interesting. The finale is honestly baffling

The real culprit is the Jump+ editorial team, honestly — I don't think it's an exaggeration to blame the comment section either. There's no way someone who writes manga that raw and personal wouldn't lose motivation after getting torn apart like that
Honestly it just felt like he had no motivation left and was dragging it out on autopilot until the movie's release, since he figured he should at least keep it serialized until then
It's been a hit ever since Part 1 ended, so expectations for the finale probably got too high. Same with One Piece — expectations are so inflated now that whatever ending comes, it's going to be rough
- @KINOKO999👍 4
Well, with an ending like that, sales dropping makes sense
People are mad about this without having actually read it closely. Sure, taken at face value the ending looks like that, but Fujimoto deliberately leaving things unwritten is the point. Pochita kept letting Denji keep dreaming — that's literally the pun: chain(saw) = keep watching a dream chain unfold, man. That's why Power already knew about the cake
Are you a genius or something?
- @NnU-i7t👍 26
Still, it was a very Tatsuki Fujimoto ending, so I could accept it
Honestly, I really loved the finale
Was the ending really that hated...? Because I honestly loved it
I liked that ending
- @Aojin1👍 11
Even so, I love Chainsaw Man. Because he's human — you don't always succeed at everything. I love Chainsaw Man, damn it
- @oyupokoa👍 4
At this point Tatsuki Fujimoto has earned my complete trust and just owns it outright. Thank you, Fujimoto-sensei. I'll keep reading forever. I don't have money for the volumes I'm missing right now, but I'll keep reading
- @ブランNo.1👍 98
But thank you for creating Asa Mitaka as a character. The man's a god
- @Kotogisi👍 7
Creating Asa Mitaka is the one thing I'll genuinely thank him for
It was still plenty enjoyable, but I bet a lot of people dropped off partway through
- @mwvlajth👍 0
Honestly, I just want him to casually start serializing Part 3 like nothing happened

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeChainsaw Man Reze Arc: How Japanese Fans Read the Ending — "They Were a Few Dozen Meters from Being in Love"
Chainsaw Man's Reze Arc — the bittersweet bomb-girl love story from Part 1, now its own theatrical film — is the storyline English-speaking fans most often call the manga's emotional peak, and the most-liked Japanese reactions don't just cry over it. They dissect it. The thread that rises to the top fixates on the details Western readers tend to fly past: the flower symbolism (Denji's first white flower means "purity"; the single red gerbera Reze dies holding means "love at first sight" and "you are my destiny"), the perfect symmetry of a story that opens with Denji coughing up a flower and ends with him eating one, and a stack of anime-original touches — milk cartons drying at a school, a line about being "sixteen and studying for exams" — that only pay off on a second watch. The recurring theme is that the tragedy isn't an accident of bad timing but the point: even if Reze had made it to the café, fans agree, Makima was always waiting, so the one mercy the story grants is Denji's silhouette waiting for her at closing time. It builds to the kind of verdict only a Fujimoto reader would land.

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeOne Piece Chapter 1186: Japanese Fans React — "ONE PIECE Is Dead"
One Piece Chapter 1186 gives Japanese readers the moment they've been waiting for — Luffy lands a hit on the final boss Im — and then immediately cuts to a flashback. The response from Japanese fans was uniformly bleak. Three threads dominated the comment section: the pacing that kills momentum before it can breathe (fans mourning that the era of punches that "carried the feelings of characters and readers alike" is gone for good); Brook's stomach-turning "I changed your diapers" plea that somehow made his protégé stabbing him in the skull feel completely earned; and a silent mid-chapter retcon of a key power slipped in with zero acknowledgment. Voice actor Chō-san collected the most sincere sympathy. The highest-liked comment kept it short: "ONE PIECE is dead. No matter how many times you call out, it won't come back."

📺 AnimeAnimeYouTubeChainsaw Man Assassins Arc PV: Japanese fans realize the Gun Devil arc is coming — "they're here to break us"
On the Chainsaw Man Assassins Arc teaser, Japanese fans clocked that the PV teases the Gun Fiend stretch, not just the assassins, and braced themselves. The thread argues over how far season 2 will reach (volume 9? the movie?), whether the Darkness Devil's reveal gets the cinematic glow-up it deserves, and laughs at Denji getting run over again — under a heavy 'I want to see it but I don't want to see it' mood about the ending nobody's ready for.

📖 MangaMangaYouTubeDokahisi Daisuki! Mochizuki-san Chapter 22: Japanese Fans React as the Gag Curdles Into Horror — "The Hearse's Engine Is Starting Up lol"
Dokahisi Daisuki! Mochizuki-san (roughly "I Love Binge-Eating! Ms. Mochizuki"), a viral Japanese gag manga, hit Chapter 22 — and Japanese readers noticed the comedy has quietly curdled into body-horror. The thread rolls from "the hearse's engine is starting up lol" into a creeping fan theory: nobody ever sees Mochizuki's reflection in a mirror, and her sister's identically bloated body draws zero reaction — so is THAT her real form, and were we watching through a filter this whole time? The mood is nervous laughter at a gluttony joke that became a ghost story, building to a verdict on the road she's speedrunning.
