Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2: Second Trailer Drops After a 9-Year Wait
“I never thought we'd actually be waiting 9 years lol”
Nine years after the original TV anime ended, KADOKAWA dropped the second main trailer for Saga of Tanya the Evil Season 2 ahead of its July 8, 2026 premiere, and Japanese fans flooded the comments with disbelief that the wait was finally over. The recurring threads were nostalgia for the returning veteran voice cast and theme song artists (MYTH & ROID and Aoi Yuki are both back), grim real-world parallels to the trailer's Eastern Front imagery, and one widow's comment about watching for her late husband that resonated with over a hundred replies. Even Tanya's own thumbnail got roasted for looking utterly heartless.
Japanese fan reactions (excerpted from 744)
After years of complete silence, I'm so happy Season 2 of Saga of Tanya the Evil is finally confirmed

— @汚い高音-t6t36 likesAnd from what I can see, the animation looks movie-quality
— @Aヘッド18 likesEven just from the trailer, you can see the Empire's limits, and it hurts
— @sound-hydrogen687 likesHow hard it is to actually end a war hits even harder given how things are right now in the real world
22 likesWatching real wars, you realize just how difficult it actually is to end one
— @mikiable257175 likesThis is the start of a hellish Eastern Front
— @piko4745381 likesAnd from the west, there's definitely going to be a landing operation on the Republic's northern coast by the Federation and the Commonwealth
— @功-d7y17 likesI really need to see Zettour losing his mind on the Eastern Front
— @水海-j7n64 likesThe old man who got demoted by his own friend, only to go on a rampage from his new post and wreck the Federation lol

— @汚い高音-t6t20 likesIf sacrificing Lergen is the price for getting a season 2 of a masterpiece, that's a bargain and then some lol
— @名畑真樹-k5i12 likesGreat to see Gendou Tesshou still doing well
— @ぺイ-c4w201 likesThis is an anime for listening to hot old-man voices. So glad the Gendou Tesshou and Otsuka Houchu combo is still going strong 9 years later
— @hamhamday22 likesSorry, but honestly, Otsuka Houchu's voice is huskier and hotter. I won't budge on this
— @hamhamday2 likes'Good'? Try 'the best'

— @luminance340858 likesI started watching the anime, and my husband got so into it he read the entire light novel series. He passed away from illness, but I'm going to watch this and go tell him all about it at the family altar 😊
— @user-uf3eq9vj9d104 likesThe model otaku wife, honestly 😂
— @masuuNEKOsuki10 likesHonestly, when it's already a foregone conclusion they're going to lose, that's when your imagination really runs wild theorizing — that's what makes it fun to watch
— @太陽系-v8t49 likesAs always, this PV is ridiculously cool! I'm way too hyped!

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run just got a new ending theme — a rap track called "Dead or Alive" by rapper Yuki Chiba — and Japanese fans spent a 2,557-comment thread roasting it nonstop. The reaction compilation video that collected those comments drew 3,485 likes of its own, and the jokes range from the song's tone clashing with the story to overseas viewers apparently finding it even worse once they understand the lyrics. A handful of commenters tried to defend it — but even they mostly ended up praising the rapper's talent while admitting the song itself doesn't fit.

Re:Zero's official "Break Time" mini-anime Episode 85, "The Scorpion's Fairy Tale," flashes back roughly 400 years to the moment Flugel actually leaves Shaula behind — and Japanese fans spent the comment section picking apart every tiny detail of how hard he made that goodbye land. Across 1,013 comments on the official channel's upload, the recurring theme was how a two-and-a-half-minute comedy-adjacent short managed to hit as hard as a main-episode gut-punch, with plenty of fans saying it recontextualizes Shaula's devotion from the current season. The thread's funniest comment also doubles as its saddest: someone resigned themselves to waiting another 400 years, just for Season 5.

A Japanese anime review channel's season-ending fan poll for Summer 2026 has crowned Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia the season's top show, with Draw This, Then Die! taking second and Though I Am an Inept Villainess placing third. The vote drew over 600 participants, the channel's largest turnout ever, and the comment section spent far more time reacting to the results than arguing with them. Across 269 comments, several viewers who initially doubted Jaadugar because of its art style say they came around after actually watching it, and one comment even notes that the show's own creator showed up to react to the results. The discussion also digs into what made the rest of the top five stand out, from Draw This, Then Die!'s scrappy charm to Though I Am an Inept Villainess's small on-screen touches for foreign viewers trying to keep character names straight. By the end, even commenters who disagreed with parts of the ranking admit it was one of the deepest seasons in recent memory.

Ghibli's Producer Waited Out the Ghibli-Style AI Trend. What Slop Sounds Like in Japanese.
Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki turned down every interview request during the Ghibli-style AI image boom, because he figured people would get bored of it on their own. He said so in an interview with Asahi Shimbun, AUTOMATON WEST put it into English, and it landed on r/anime. I opened that thread expecting a fight, since I read these comment sections every night for a living. Almost nobody was fighting. Here is what that thread actually said, what happens to the word slop when I carry it into Japanese, and why the Miyazaki line about an insult to life itself keeps getting attached to the wrong thing.
