• 0:40 — the animation is insane. Okay, that explains why it took this long to make.

• The art style shifted a bit but it still feels like Mashle. Also the animation is just too good.

• A-1 Pictures cuts corners ruthlessly on shows they don't expect to sell. This must've sold way better than expected, so they're kicking it into gear.

• I've been waiting~ Mash! Burnedead! 😂

370 likes

• The animation!! It's completely different!! Like, glossy, shiny almost — and I can even spot little callbacks to the bonus-comic gag about turning a pot into a mouse! The detail!! (crying)

• IT'S HEEEERE!!! So hyped!! The whole art texture feels completely different!!

• The old art style was great, but this new crisp, sharp look is amazing too 😭😭😭

• 0:02 — the way he says "Grandpa-sama" is so cute.

• Mashle's timeline: "a few days." Reality's timeline: "several years."

  — @Kouhara_games11 likes

• Oh my god... I'm way too hyped. I just want next year to hurry up already. Now it's just counting down the days until it starts. My favorite, Domina, is finally showing up — can't wait to hear his voice...

• If the late-night anime block runs Frieren into Mashle, that's a fire lineup. Works the other order too, honestly.

• Genuinely wondering what the OP is gonna be this time.

• I can't imagine anyone topping CreepyNuts...... 😥

47 likes

• CreepyNuts was great too, obviously, but Okazaki Taiiku's felt more like a real "anime song" to me — I liked that one more.

74 likes

• Got a feeling Kocchi no Kento might be the one for this.

  — @yuya-n-yuyo-n82 likes

• The animation is genuinely exploding right now?!?! I love the Tri-Magicathlon arc so much because literally everyone — enemies included — turns out to be a good person deep down. I'm way too excited!!! This is legitimately a reason to keep living...

Re:Zero Break Time Episode 78: A Bodyguard Took Elsa's Arm — What Japan Said

Re:Zero's official Break Time short for Episode 78, 「裏稼業姉妹暗躍日報」, went up the same night Season 4's second cour premiered, and it shows an early Elsa-and-Meili job where a bodyguard cuts off Elsa's arm — which then grows back while she tells Meili one arm is a cheap price for her sister being safe. Across 290 comments, Japanese viewers spent far less time on the sisters than on the man who managed it: the loudest recurring line is some version of "anyone who can take Elsa's arm has to be seriously strong," followed by a wave of One Piece jokes about Elsa out-Shanks-ing Shanks. The one real disagreement is how strong that bodyguard actually was, and it gets settled with a quote from the author. Under that runs a quieter thread about the box Elsa is carrying, and about Elsa being someone the main story can't show anymore. Two of the three highest-liked comments on the video are not analysis at all — one is a life decision, and the other is the reply that lands it.

Re:Zero Cour 2 PV: The Two-Month Wait Ends August 12 — Japan Replies in Petelgeuse's Voice

The PV for Re:Zero Season 4's second cour, 《Dakkan-hen》, confirmed an August 12 premiere across 21 stations in Japan, ending the gap since the first cour wrapped. The trailer shows Julius, Emilia fighting alongside him, Ram, and Shaula, and closes on a silhouette that commenters refuse to spell out. Across 2,054 comments, the top reaction drew 2,943 likes — and it is written in the voice of a villain. "My brain trembles" is Petelgeuse's catchphrase from Season 1, and Japanese fans have folded it, along with sloth, diligence and gluttony, into their everyday hype vocabulary. The result is a comment section where people apologize to the production staff for their own slothfulness and thank them for their diligence, entirely unironically, while counting down the two months they spent waiting. The last line of the thread is four words pointed at the final shot, and nobody replies to it with an explanation. Editor's note: Re:Zero Season 4 is a split cour — 《Soushitsu-hen》ran 11 episodes from April 8, and 《Dakkan-hen》runs 8 episodes from August 12, for 19 episodes total.

Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Episodes 1-2: Fatima's Tragic Real History

Across 407 comments on Japanese YouTuber TERU-chan's first-impressions review of Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia's back-to-back series premiere, the single most-liked comment (234 likes) isn't about the animation at all — it's about one gutting line from episode 2. A close second (201 likes) goes further, warning that if the show stays faithful to the real history of Fatima Khatun, it "can only end badly." That lands right after another commenter looks up Fatima Khatun's actual Wikipedia page and reports back that it's rough reading — this isn't invented tragedy, it's the show hewing close to a real medieval life. From there the comments turn into an impromptu history seminar: a viewer with a history degree says the depiction of slavery under Islamic law of the era matches their own coursework, another lays out exactly how manumission worked as a virtuous act, and several Japanese fans connect the story back to their own history, noting Japan avoided a similar fate as this show's setting largely because of the sea. By the end, the highest praise in the thread isn't analytical at all.

  ColumnAnimer/anime（朝日新聞の鈴木敏夫インタビューをAUTOMATON WESTが英訳した記事のスレッド）

Ghibli's Producer Waited Out the Ghibli-Style AI Trend. What Slop Sounds Like in Japanese.

Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki turned down every interview request during the Ghibli-style AI image boom, because he figured people would get bored of it on their own. He said so in an interview with Asahi Shimbun, AUTOMATON WEST put it into English, and it landed on r/anime. I opened that thread expecting a fight, since I read these comment sections every night for a living. Almost nobody was fighting. Here is what that thread actually said, what happens to the word slop when I carry it into Japanese, and why the Miyazaki line about an insult to life itself keeps getting attached to the wrong thing.
