  このアニメ本当に誇らしい！！ 俺はイラン人じゃなくてパレスチナ人だけど、この作品が文化への純粋なリスペクトを持って作られてるのがはっきり分かる。ビジュアルは全部美しいし、だいたい正確だし、絵柄がめちゃくちゃ可愛い！！ 一度くらい、何も問題のない作品があってもいいよな😂

  Rlly proud of this anime !!! I’m Palestinian , not Iranian, but I can clearly tell this anime was made with pure respect for the culture. The visuals are all beautiful, mostly accurate, and the drawing style is soo cute!!!!! For once, something non-problematic 😂

  Regardless of accuracy (and there seems to be a decent amount of at least) this looks really good, the style is both distinct and charming. You got me interested!

  日本のアニメではキャラが日本語を喋ってても、実際は別の言語を喋ってる想定っていうのがよくある。だからこの作品でも、たぶん本当はペルシャ語を喋ってるって設定なんだと思う。

  Its common in Japan to have the characters speeking Japanese, but its implied they are actually speeking in a different language, so i would assume they are actually supposed to be speaking farsi

  あの浴場シーンって、オリエンタリズムじゃなくて「日本人が思う銭湯」から来てるんじゃないかと勘ぐってる。このシリーズはよく調べて作られてるけど、公衆浴場が日本の文化と歴史に染みついてるせいで、作者がオリエンタリズム的な浴場描写に触れたとき盲点になったのかもしれない。個人的にはあの描写は無い方が良かったと思う。ただ、悪意ある間違いというより本当に善意の勘違いだと捉えられる。少なくとも、そうであってほしい。

  I have to wonder if the bath scene comes from the Japanese understanding of a bathhouse, and not an Orientalist one. A lot of this series is well researched, but, public bathhouses are so ingrained into Japanese culture and history, it might have been a blind spot for the author when coming across the Orientalist depictions of them. I believe it'd been better to be without that depiction at all, but I can at least see it as less of malicious mistake, and more of a genuine one. At least, that's what I HOPE.

  ムスリム圏出身の女だけど、これは国によると思う。私のとこではハンマーム（公衆浴場）の共用エリアでトップレスなのはごく普通。薄い下着的な布を着ることもあるけど、必須じゃない。

  13:16 woman from a muslim country here. I think this depends on the country. Where I'm from, it's very common to be topless even in the public area of the hammam. Sometimes you wear a sort of thin underdress, but it isn't necessary. None of it is sexual of course, and you just "don't look". The only thing that strikes me as inaccurate in the scene though is that they're all smiling and dilly-dallying about when in reality you're either fighting for buckets or playing "I was here before you for the scrubbing" politics.

  浴場の話でいうと、うちのチュニジアでも女性は共用エリアでトップレスで、集まって喋ったり時には食事したりする。だからあれは完全にオリエンタリズム的な妄想とは言えないと思う。

  On the subject of bathhouses, women would be topless in the common area of the bathhouse here in Tunisia and they would gather and talk sometimes eat there so I don't think it's entirely an orientalist fantasy

  誰かも言ってたけど、あの浴場シーンはオリエンタリズムというより、日本自身の温泉文化との混同っぽく見える。絵柄もチビキャラで、ファンサやハーレム的なノリじゃないしね。

  I saw someone else mention it, but the bathhouse scene seems more like a confusion with Japan’s own hot spring culture than orientalism, especially taking the art as chibi and not fan servicey or haremy

  日本のアニメ業界が、自国の文化の殻を破って、それでも精一杯リサーチしてリスペクトしようとしてるのが本当に良い。正直、ネットには誤情報が多いから間違ったソースを掴んじゃった部分もあるだろう。それでもアラジンよりはずっとマシだよ、ありがたいことに。

  Its really nice how the Japanese anime industry is going outside of their cultural bubble while still trying their best on their research and being respectful. Honestly, they probably got the wrong sources when doing research, since there is a lot of misinfo on the internet. It's better than Aladdin, thankfully.

  まだ観れてないんだけど、制作陣のインタビューを読んだら、意図的にオリエンタリズム的な紋切り型に陥らないようにして、現代のイラン人やモンゴル人が「自分たちだ」と思えるようにしたかった、と語ってた。少なくともそれぞれの文化に誠実であろうとする姿勢は見える。

  I haven't got around to watching this series yet, but I read an interview with the showrunners that mentioned that they specifically wanted to not fall into Orientalist tropes and wanting modern Iranians and Mongolians to feel represented, which at the very least shows an willingness to do right by those respective cultures.

  第2話で語られたズムルドの容姿と、ミハイルという名の兄がいる点からすると、二人は東欧出身っぽい。ズムルドとミハイルはおそらく「サカーリバ」と呼ばれる立場だ――元々はスラブ人を指した奴隷だけど、後に中欧・東欧・南欧出身の奴隷も含むようになった呼称だよ。

  Zumurrud’s appearance and her having a brother named Mikhail, as mentioned in the second episode, suggests that they came from Eastern Europe. Zumurrud and Mikhail most likely would’ve been referred to as saqaliba, slaves that originally referred to the Slavic people, but came to includes slaves that originated from Central, Eastern and Southern Europe.
