Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden Episode 1 Wins Over Skeptical Fans

Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden premiered on Tokyo MX, MBS and BS NTV on October 6, and a Japanese commentary video posted the following week -- framed around the reviewer admitting he expected "just another reincarnation isekai" -- pulled in 347 comments. The top comment (349 likes) isn't really about this show at all: it's a wish that the same author's other manga, The Sage's Disciple Kunon, got the same animation budget. From there the thread splits between praise for the production itself and a specific, recurring point about how the main character treats the body she's possessing. By the end, more than one commenter is already calling it one of the season's best new titles -- for reasons that have almost nothing to do with the premise everyone assumed it would coast on.

Steel Ball Run Episode 4: Tusk's First Kill Horrifies Fans

Steel Ball Run's fourth episode gives Johnny Joestar's Stand, Tusk, its first real moment on screen -- and instead of a triumphant power-up, it's a man's leg severed clean off and a father left to bleed out in front of his own son. Across the 538 comments on the official clip, almost nobody is talking plot. The top comment (4,051 likes) just points out that even Gyro, standing right there, has no idea what he's looking at. From there the thread splits between people marveling at how lethal the attack actually is compared to what they expected, and people drawing a pointed contrast between Johnny and the franchise's original hero. By the end, the joke about Gyro's blank confusion has basically become shorthand for the whole scene.

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Episode 1: Fans Debate How Far the Remake Goes

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus — a remake of the original Battle of Gods arc — aired its first episode on Fuji TV this past Sunday, October 11. A Japanese reaction-compilation video posted right after the broadcast drew 171 comments, and across the whole thread it comes down to one open question: is this just a prettier rerun of a story everyone already knows, or is it actually going somewhere new? The thread's top comment (510 likes) hopes for scenes that weren't in the original movie at all, like a full God of Destruction fight, and another points out the anime is pulling material from the manga version of the story, which could carry it all the way to the Tournament of Power arc. Not everyone's convinced — one reply argues there's been no new voice recording, so there's probably no new story at all. What nobody disputes is the production itself: commenters zeroed in on the classic Dragon Ball Z sound effects making a comeback and veteran cast members' voices bringing more than one viewer close to tears. By the end of the thread, the debate over new content was still unresolved, but everyone agreed on one thing: they're already counting down to next Sunday.

Steel Ball Run Episode 4: Anime-Only Scenes Finally Show Andre's Death and a Stand's Name

Steel Ball Run's 2nd Stage Episode 4, "Oh! Lonesome Me" (subtitled "Devil's Palm"), added two scenes the manga never clearly drew: Mountain Tim shouting his Stand's name as he activates it, and a visible, unambiguous death for Andre of the Boomboom Family. A Japanese reaction thread built around Warner Bros. Japan Anime's official episode clip ran to 142 comments, and the top-liked reply (1,044 likes) is just a single line of gratitude for how the Stand's name was delivered on screen. From there, commenters split their praise between the Stand-naming addition -- Part 7's manga rarely has characters say a Stand's name out loud -- and the clearer Andre death scene, with manga readers confirming both were anime-original additions. Editor's note: Steel Ball Run (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 7) 2nd Stage airs weekly on Netflix on Fridays; this is the fourth episode of that run.

Steel Ball Run Episode 3: A Forgettable Early Villain Gets a Legendary Fight Scene

Steel Ball Run's 2nd Stage Episode 3 (Netflix, October 2) animates Gyro Zeppeli's fight against the Boomboom Family — minor hired-assassin antagonists from early in the Part 7 manga, whose Stand turns metal magnetic once it touches Gyro's blood. A Japanese reaction video built around an official clip of that fight drew 418 comments, and the overwhelming reaction was disbelief that a fight this minor got this much visual effort: the top comment (2,483 likes) simply says nobody expected a villain this forgettable to look this cool. From there the thread splits between pure excitement about the choreography and a more specific argument — that the Boomboom Family's magnetism is a genuinely rough matchup for Gyro's steel balls, not just a style showcase — before turning into anticipation for the far more famous Ringo Oyanagi fight still to come. A smaller side-thread just enjoyed minor animation details and the voice cast. Editor's note: this is a Netflix-exclusive 2nd Stage episode continuing Part 7's early arc; the official clip is from Warner Bros. Japan Anime's channel.

Magic Knight Rayearth Episode 1: Original 1994 Ending Song Returns, Fans Cry

Magic Knight Rayearth's new TV anime premiered its first episode on October 7, a full-series remake arriving 32 years after CLAMP's original 1994 adaptation — and it closed the episode with the same, unaltered ending theme the 1994 version used, "Yuzurenai Negai." Across the video that collected Japan's reaction to the premiere (275 comments total), the top-liked comment (103 likes) joked about whether the finale would bring the original movie's theme song back too, while plenty of others said hearing "Yuzurenai Negai" play unchanged was what actually made them cry. A lot of the thread also compared the new art directly to CLAMP's original manga linework, and one lower-liked comment turned into a short argument over whether Rayearth really deserves credit as the series that started the summoned-to-another-world genre. Editor's note: Magic Knight Rayearth is CLAMP's early-1990s manga and 1994 TV anime about three Tokyo schoolgirls summoned to the world of Cephiro to become its Magic Knights; this new series is being described by viewers who compared it shot-for-shot to the original as a faithful remake.
