攻殻はよく“ポストサイバーパンク”と呼ばれる。普通サイバーパンクの主人公は社会の負け組——ハッカー、傭兵、犯罪者、密輸業者、底辺の企業労働者。基本姿勢は「世界はクソ、技術は人間性を奪う、ハイテクでも人は惨め、体制なんてクソ食らえ」。“サイバー”でも結局は“パンク”だから。でも攻殻の彼らは政府機構の中で完璧に機能し、賃金のためだけでなく世界を少しでもマシにするために働く。どれだけ腐敗した体制でも、その内側に本気で気にかけ、やるべきことをやる人間がいる。勝利が限定的で短命でも、彼らは違いを生み出せる。ポストサイバーパンクの世界はサイバーパンクほど絶望的じゃない。本質的に善でも悪でもない——現実そのものみたいに
GitS often described as post-cyberpunk. Because usually, cyberpunk genre protagonists are underdogs of society: hackers, mercenary, criminals, smugglers, lowly corporate workers. And general cyberpunk attitude is world sucks, technologies are dehumanizing, despite all high tech people live miserable lives, fuck the system. Because, even if it's "cyber", it's still punk in the end. Here we have people perfectly working within the government structure, not just for wage, but to make a world a bit less shitty place. However corrupt that system is, there is still people within who genuinely cares and doing whats need to be done. And however their wins are limited or short lived, they still managing to make a difference. Post-cyberpunk is not as hopeless as cyberpunk world. It's not inherently good, nor inherently bad - just as a real world.

今後のために言っておくと、本作の吹替はすごく良い。日英バイリンガルの自分からすると、字幕も吹替も同じくらい素晴らしいと思う
For the future, the dub is incredible in this. As someone who bilingual in Japanese, I think they are equally great.
