Japan's most-liked comment about Draw This, Then Die!

With "Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia," the story and the characters are great, but the direction is on another level. While Sitara couldn't understand Mongolian, episodes 1–2 gave it to us dubbed; from episode 3, once she understands and can speak it, it's in Japanese — the switch point is presented that clearly. The passage of time isn't tracked only through Sitara either; they weave in things like a woman who couldn't adapt to Mongol life gradually settling in. The craft is genuinely fine-grained. It makes you feel like you're watching a taiga drama.

  • In Jaadugar, the moment in episode 3 where her face settles into that fully-resolved smile mid-conversation with Shira gave me chills. It felt like standing in the room for the moment a girl became the witch who would later throw Mongolia into chaos.

  • Whoa! Every single spot where I cried and got choked up matches exactly with the host's! This is clearly a cut above the rest of this season's new shows! Smashed the like button out of sheer agreement.

  • Normally I'd have swerved around Jaadugar because of the art style (cute — I assumed it was a kids' "history in manga form" thing), so thank you, sincerely, for introducing it and pushing it so hard. I nearly missed a masterpiece of the century...

  • I ugly-cried through episodes 2 and 3 as well. The whole show is just soaked in genuine love for manga. This season has so many buzzy titles that this one's genuinely at risk of getting buried, which is such a shame. I really want as many anime fans as possible to give this a chance.

  • I watched this video, went and watched Hell Mode season 1, and ended up binging the whole thing. It really is good.

  • Back in my day I was serious about judo, riding motorcycles at night, listening to late-night radio while drawing manga and illustrations and building plastic models. Beat up and exhausted, I gave up a judo scholarship to university, went to animation school against my parents' wishes, became an animator, and joined a circle at Comiket back in the Harumi days. I think it took that inner fire burning inside me to make it happen. Watching this, the tears just came on their own.

  • Reiwa no Dara-san. Say what you want, it's actually committing to horror, and that's what's good about it.

  • There are a lot of strong contenders for this season's "hegemon" title, but I think Draw This, Then Die! deserves a seat at that table too.

  • Draw This, Then Die! was so good I went and read the manga — and it even has a complete answer to "then what is Akafuku here for?" I was moved all over again.

  • I thought this channel was all about Saga of Tanya the Evil! (Haven't watched it myself.) I'm only two episodes into Draw This, Then Die!, but the moment the teacher broke down crying after finishing her manga in episode 2, I lost it too. The passion, the sense that she genuinely, truly loves manga — that's what gets you.

  • Jaadugar: what I love is that this show is getting anime-impression tweets from people in the Mongol-speaking world, which you almost never see otherwise. (Meanwhile the Middle East seems to have plenty of anime accounts and streams regardless of Jaadugar.)

  • This has turned into Akira Sekine's unstoppable season.

  • An occult show like Reiwa no Dara-san that balances the gags and the gore this well is always going to be fun.

  • It's rare to find a show that moves you to tears three episodes running.

  • Saori Hayami's acting has been getting genuinely fearsome lately, hasn't it? It's incredible.

  • This show gives you both the realistic side of someone who's already been through "drawing manga" — the teacher — and the excitement of the high schoolers about to take it on for the first time. Both sides hit you emotionally.

  • Of the last year's shows, Draw This, Then Die! and Ruri no Houseki are unbelievably good at depicting obsession — the fixation people have on the thing they love. I like gemstones as monetary value but have zero interest in stones themselves, and I love reading manga but have no interest in drawing it. And even I end up understanding what's great about gems and about manga. These authors are amazing.

  • Haven't watched it myself yet, but my husband — who's already caught up — said every single episode leaves him thinking "thank you." Now I'm curious, guess I'll check it out too.

  • Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia is too good. With Mushoku Tensei, Rudeus being creepy is old news at this point; what I love is the little sister using the sacred object to blackmail him. The World Is Dancing was a hopeless mismatch for me. No matter how many times the fans tell me "it's not the kind of show where you're meant to relate to the protagonist," a protagonist I find that unpleasant shows up every single episode, so I can't get interested in the story…

  • Teared up a little in episode 1, a little in episode 2, a little in episode 3 too. It's not like I've had a similar experience or ever poured that kind of passion into something myself — I just love that every episode, someone works up the courage to take one more step forward.
