I would argue, had this manga gotten any normal drawing, the action would have been to much for my stomach to bear. The crayon-style, just like in ranking of kings, gives a warm to the images which contrasted dramatically with how cold the world can be.

@pablodiaz2278 the crayon style is an interesting choice of art direction. Sure, i think it'll be much more brutal if it gets the usual drawing we see in anime. However, using cartoon-ish style removes the burden to make the visual too accurate with real things, as well as avoiding backlash from people who can pinpoint inaccuracy. Same goes with the recitation of Quran in this anime. Rather than having the possibility of butchering the pronunciations which can sparks controversy, i think it's a great choice to go with the Japanese translation. ✌️

This is based on real events. Sitara, who later takes the name Fatima, was a real historical person taken as a slave when the Mongols conquered Persia. The leader of that army was Tolui, one of the sons of Genghis Kahn.

As a history enthusiast and someone with Mongol ancestry, I would say that this anime is 90% historically accurate. All the major events align with reality, and the author has merely filled in the connecting links and logical sequences with their own ideas. In a sense, it serves as a history textbook.

Fun fact: Jaadugar is one of those rare anime where history itself is basically a spoiler. The protagonist, Fatima, was a real 13th-century woman. Just search for Fatima Khatun if you're curious.

Pretty accurate representation in Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. Unlike many other slave systems, Islamic law placed clear rules on how slaves were to be treated. Slavery already existed across the world in that era. Rather than creating it, Islam regulated it: masters were commanded to feed and clothe slaves as they fed and clothed themselves, avoid abuse, and manumission (freeing slaves) was considered a virtuous act and an expiation for certain sins. The Prophet ﷺ said: "They are your brothers under your authority. Feed them from what you eat, clothe them from what you wear, and do not burden them beyond their capacity." (Sahih al-Bukhari 30; Sahih Muslim 1661) Another interesting point: Islamic societies often educated slaves. Some of history's most powerful Muslim rulers actually began life as slaves. The Mamluk Sultanate, where "Mamluk" literally means "owned/slave," was an entire kingdom founded and ruled by former slave soldiers. Sultan Saif al-Din Qutuz and Rukn al-Din Baybars, both former Mamluks, defeated the Mongols at the Battle of Ayn Jalut, changing the course of Middle Eastern history. You may wonder why the pursuit of knowledge was so strongly emphasized. There is a clear basis for this in Islamic teachings. The very first revelation of the Qur'an began with the command: "Read in the name of your Lord who created." (Qur'an 96:1) The Prophet ﷺ also said: "Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim." (Sunan Ibn Majah 224) This emphasis on learning applied regardless of one's social status, which helps explain why education was encouraged in many Islamic societies, including for slaves. Of course, not every ruler or master lived up to these teachings, just as laws are not always perfectly followed. But if you're discussing the principles of Islamic law rather than the actions of every individual, these rules are well documented. Feel free to research them yourself.

17:27 As you can already see in this episode, slavery in this part of the world worked very differently from what people imagine from 19th-century America. In many Muslim empires, high-ranking officials — even prime ministers — were often slaves owned by the sultan, and the sultan's mother was frequently a former slave as well.

About slavery in those times: This isn’t the traditional depiction of slavery like it was in the west during the slave trade. In the Middle East history, specifically when Islam was prominent, completely abolishing slavery would destroy the economy and cause more harm to those in poverty than if they were in slavery. The household that bought a slave had a legal obligation to take care, feed, provide clothing and give them education - the food and clothing must have been the same that the master eats / wears. Slaves had the right of marriage, legally buying their freedom (in some schools of Islamic jurisprudence required, to provide them with an initial sum of money or property to help them start their newly freed life), owning property and legally challenge abuse (If a master physically abused or mutilated a slave, the slave was automatically granted their freedom), also overworking slaves was forbidden, and if heavy labor was required, masters had to help them with the work. Also, Islam established mechanisms to systematically phase out slavery - freeing a slave was considered a highly virtuous act to seek divine forgiveness. To add to that^: Throughout Islamic history, many individuals who began as slaves, rose to become powerful politicians, military leaders, scholars, and philosophers. In fact, several massive, enduring empires were actually founded and ruled by former slaves (I know only 1 - The Mamluk Sultanate) Add 1: You can't call a slave "my slave". Masters were strictly instructed not to refer to them as "my slave" ('abdi or amati) because true ownership and servitude belong solely to God. Instead, they were to be called by respectful, family-like titles to protect their human dignity.

17:25 a slave marrying a free person is one of the official ways they could also become free. It was basically a positive for everyone because they secure a wife for Muhammad that is a good match for him emotionally and intellectually AND Sitara gets to be free and gets out of slavery. Which is also why Fatima says she's her daughter (as in daughter in law) even though she obviously also treated Sitara like a daughter all these years and treated her slaves like friends. I don't know the exact methods slaves could be free with their masters in that era but they probably involved legal contracts to legitimize a slave being a citizen. And marriage is one of those contracts.

In islam, to forbid something that was a part of a culture is it to do it gradually. For deeply rooted economic and tradition things like in slavery, things are introduced to lessen the slave's suffering gradually that may eventually lead to their freedom or at least to live with dignity (one of the first rule muslims made for them is that you cannot force slaves into prostitution). for alcohol is to ban it at particular formal places first (yes, muslims used to drink alcohol in the pre-islamic arabia) and etc. The only outlier is like truly horrible things people used to do in those times like certain tribal tradition is to killing by burying their firstborn female child alive, prostitution, gambling etc those are prohibited instantly.

Actually, this anime is very special to Muslims. The voice you heard at the beginning of the episode is the Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer. It is recited by the muezzin to invite Muslims to pray, beginning with the words: "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." The Qur'an is the holy book of Islam. Muslims believe it is the word of Allah (God), revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It is considered a divine miracle and has been preserved unchanged since it was first revealed over 1,400 years ago. As a Muslim, seeing these beautiful Islamic elements represented in this anime made me really happy. I truly appreciate it.❤❤
