攻殻機動隊10話 完結に海外「綺麗で面白くて自分が馬鹿に思えた」【海外の反応】

That sad feeling when an anime is over after 10 episodes instead of the normal 12-13. Saru did some great work in adding as much stylistic charm as they did to this series.

i liked how frank the discussion was; Motoko was asking if there were any solid assurances and the Puppet Master was not mincing words that there would be no guarantees, and in the end Motoko knew she couldn't trust them anyways i don't think Motoko agreed because of a "rational" reason; she went on a gut feeling, that very same sort of human unpredictability that the Puppet Master wanted, which i think feels fitting

There was an explanation. Mokoto merged because Puppet Master was blunt and honest with her. The whole point of Section 9 was that she was tired of the selfish duplicity, and you'll notice that a core trait of section 9 over the others is that they don't mince and don't manipulate each other, the one time that it was close to that (the kid that gets murdered) Batou it's deeply pissed about what he sees as manipulative (though here it was just an inexperienced guy being sent to a mission that turned out to be far more dangerous that thought). And as for why she accepted so quickly, the same reason she took the risk of becoming government property: she gets to do something that matters and do things that few other can. It's just her ambition and desire to live life to it's maximum, even at sacrifice for herself. The puppet master was a similar compromise but with an entity that was more aligned with her and more honest.

The fact that this anime was aired at a time when AI going rogue or becoming sentient is nearing reality seems symbolic. Envisioning something like this before even the internet was a thing shows how GitS was way ahead of its time.
